I worked at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great variety of experience while developing a highly transferrable skill set; the coaching and mentoring you will get is fantastic, you are given the tools you need to grow and continue learning; competitive compensation; international transfer opportunities can be life-changing; great exit options; and most of all the people are amazing (extremely talented yet humble); Chicago office is one of the best in the global system

    Cons

The travel eventually takes its toll (though Bain does what it can to manage this and all the miles/points you’ll accumulate are a perk); your work-life balance and overall satisfaction for any 3-6 month period is highly project dependent (the rare poorly matched team or occasionally ornery client can make life difficult)

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in professional development of employees and never stray from the wonderful Bain culture

-People here are not just satisfied, they are enthusiastic. That brings energy into the work.
    -The work is awesome!

    Cons

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work with incredible people while developing invaluable analytical skills & understanding of business, Very entrepreneurial and gives you opportunities to contribute to the office in ways you like through "Extra 10s". Lots of formal and informal mentorship as well for learning.

    Cons

Very steep learning curve, hours more unpredictable (as with all consulting jobs)

    Advice to Management

During AC1 year, when new grads are just making that transition from 16+ years of school to working full-time, be sure to invest a lot of time in support. It seems that the first year is the most likely time for ACs to feel very dissatisfied with work depending on what kind of case(s) they are put on.

    Pros

Bain has one of the brightest and friendliest people. The environment is really friendly and people try to take care of each other

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work is engaging and nearly everyone you work with is brilliant. Lots of effort put into personal development and growth. People really care about you, and the atmosphere is more collaborative than competitive.

    Cons

Bain, like all consulting, has highly variable work. Sometimes it's very, very busy, other times it's not. The problem is that planning for it is very difficult. You can rarely commit to things outside of work more than 1-2 days in advance, if at all.

    Advice to Management

Keep valuing people above everything else, it really shows.

I worked at Bain & Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Always learning something new. Opportunities to expose yourself to different industries, markets, geographies. Surrounded by incredible people, who are smart, interesting, and mostly compassionate / interested in mutual benefit. Very low internal competition, extremely collegiate environment.

    Cons

Sometimes you just have to suck it up and do work that's less appealing for a time. Not always an opportunity to work on what you want to work on, whether it be industry or time of work. You have to actively manage work/life balance to keep yourself sane.

    Advice to Management

    Continue over-investing in your employees.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    The people are extraordinarily talented
    Colleagues are kind, empathetic...they listen
The compensation package is very strong; I'll retire before 50
One gets to decide what they want to do, what they want to work; do what energizes you
Personal development opportunities are terrific; at all levels, people are stretched
Best carrer opportunity to develop a general manager toolkit
Spend a few years at Bain, and you will develop a new level of confidence in your problem-solving skills, your ability to influence, and your capacity to effect organizational change

    Cons

The consulting lifestyle is demanding; if you aren't down with frequen travel, find another career

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Analytical; laser focused on working with client executives willing to change the status quo; top-tier client roster, from Fortune 50 to growth-capital backed companies; team-oriented, supportive environment; fantastic exit opportunities if you choose to leave Bain

    Cons

Like all high-achieving careers, you'll work hard, but you will get lots of support along the way. You should go into a Bain career wanting to learn and make a difference with your clients. You need to care about your clients' business as much, if not more, than they do. That can come with longer hours early in your career.
