I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Intellectual challenge:
Bain offers an opportunity to work on a wide variety of intellectually challenging problems across multiple industries. Companies only hire Bain when they can't solve the problem themselves, so you know these aren't minor issues being addressed. Plus for someone at a relatively early point in their career Bain offers unparalleled access to key decision makers and an ability to effect rapid change far beyond what you'd see in many companies (especially large ones) at the same tenure. Finally, as you get more senior you also have the ability to build more industry/function-specific expertise, which allows you to develop a valuable knowledge base should you choose to work in that area in the future.

    Culture:
On top of the intellectual side of things, Bain offers a great working environment with people who you actually enjoy spending time with (many of my close friends have come from Bain), and who won't hesitate to support you when you need it. Lots of consulting firms offer interesting, challenging work, but Bain's culture helps make that work more enjoyable.

    Cons

    Sustainability/predictability:
Because this is a client services business, the workload and requirements for a given case will often revolve around the needs (and sometimes the whims) of the client and the leadership team that serves it. This can make it difficult to predict workload, travel and other requirements too far in advance, and sometimes takes control over your own schedule out of your hands. Bain does its best to try to be flexible in how, where and when you work, but in the end the needs of the client tend to come first, which can mean work/life balance can take a hit at times. Hours are similarly variable, but longer (60+ hour) weeks are not uncommon, particularly for shorter cases or in early stages, and travel tends to compound this (although Bain requires less travel than others).

    Pros

Honestly, the people are unbelievable and there's a lot of attention to professional development. You get to work on really complex, large problems.

    Cons

Due to client whims, a lot of good work can be discarded because of a change in direction, which is somewhat disheartening. Hours can be rough depending on case.
