I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are what makes it special. Throughout my career, I can point to people who invested in me, helping me to grow and develop. And the relationships I formed in the trenches with my supervisors, peers, and reports helped make me into who I am today. It's an apprenticeship business and you get to learn from some of the best. Good learning, fantastic impact, and a lot of fun along the way. No one hear takes themselves too seriously ... very far from it!

    Cons

The work is demanding, no question about that. We invest a lot to make it as manageable as possible. But even so, it does sometimes feel like you are in a constant struggle to juggle it all and make it work ... and are on the razor's edge of having it all fall apart.

    Pros

Bain & Company has a contagiously positive atmosphere, in which each and every employee genuinely invests in his or her peers to create an environment filled with support, reinforcement, and affirmation. Bain has an unprecedented culture that is warm, inviting, and fun, and this inspires and invigorates employees such as myself. Bain employees work extremely hard to produce great work, and the support of the Bain community makes this easy and enjoyable. Everyone at Bain walks around the office with a smile, no matter how stressful a case may be or how much work needs to get done. I am extremely grateful to work in such an uplifting environment in which I feel challenged and appreciated.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons to working at Bain & Company!

I worked at Bain & Company full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Amazing culture, definitely deserving of the "Top Place to Work" awards they have received. Great benefits, including great maternity leave program. The motto of "work hard, play hard" is definitely true of Bain. They value the people who do the work to make the business operate, on both the consulting side and the administrative side.

    Cons

Because of the company's amazing culture, benefits and work/life balance - people never leave! It can be difficult to move up in a department with 100% retention. This is a great problem for a company to have, but it may be why they are experiencing turnover on the administrative side.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing! I'm proud to be a Bain alum!

I have been working at Bain & Company (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Culture, culture, culture!
    - Learning opportunities (e.g., Big Data, industries, capabilities, etc.)
    - Client Exposure
    - Name Recognition
    - Mentorship and Coaching
    - Ability to expand interests outside of Bain
    - Post-Bain career opportunities
    - (Mostly) protected weekends

Personal Anecdote: I was choosing between Bain and BCG and I found that the culture, and client work done at Bain SF the selling point for me. Hands down, this office and this company are unparalleled in their ability to build a cultivating and thriving culture that is fun and inspiring.

Random note: You can expense things on your personal card versus the corporate card which allows you to keep all the points. This isn't the same across all firms.

    Cons

    - Lifestyle is rough
    - Hours are long
    - Too fratty at times

    Advice to Management

Keep sustainability top of mind for the company.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Your colleagues are legitimately smart, and always interested in helping you progress your career. Pay is generous and grows quickly if you do well. Company culture is unparalleled. Work is interesting and focused on most important company problems

    Cons

Work can be taxing, and the nature of client services often leads to fire drills and stress. As with any consulting firm, sometimes you'll work on specific tasks that are annoying, but it's definitely the minimum

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you're doing. Focus on how to help young parents and families balance the demands of a client-facing role with raising a family.
