I have been working at Bain & Company part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing people, friendly work environment, treat support staff well both on an individual and institutional level, phenomenal maternity leave policy, flexible hours and schedule for working mothers, great medical benefits, fun and inclusive office activities, convenient office location.

    Cons

Difficult, lengthy, and needlessly tedious expense system. Limited opportunity for career advancement for senior admin.

    Advice to Management

Please invest in an expense system where credit card purchases are linked and show up automatically in the system. You have hundreds, if not thousands of people doing mass amounts of data entry that really is not necessary. Please consider promoting from within your admin group for research and EA / MA manager positions.

    Pros

The people are top notch both in terms of IQ and EQ. Truly care about people. Fun. Strong values.

    Cons

Can be intense and life balance requires effort but not unusual for this caliber of responsibility and comp

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Incredibly talented colleagues with big hearts, who are serious about helping colleagues reach their full potentials. Also probably one of the more sustainable lifestyles among consulting firms

    Cons

Incredibly talented colleagues that leave you impressed, but also humble..

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smart, fun, and humble people. We solve fascinating business problems for a living--what could be better than that? We have all the support we could ever need from above and live our values of being True North every single day.

    Cons

The work is hard and the travel can be tough. The work gets harder every day and you'll never get to rest on your laurels--the constant challenge can get tiring.

    - Clear path toward advancement and many senior roles available

    - Many exit options
    - Ability to transfer easily to different cities and offices
    - Not as competitive environment as other consulting firms

    Cons

    - Long hours
    - Travel required
    - Constant feeling that you are not good at the job due to frequent feedback

    Advice to Management

Overall a very positive experience: keep up the great work! Try to remind Managers and Partners to give positive feedback as well as development opportunities.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The client impact here is just very powerful and distinctive. My chance to learn and make a difference is simply unbeatable. My colleagues are wicked smart, wonderfully pragmatic, and humble and fun. It makes our work with client organizations turn into real results and I have built lifelong relationships with clients and Bain teammates alike. This is just a great place to work and build a career.

    Cons

Pace is full and active but so is any successful professional career. Here you do this with a team that supports you at each turn.

    Advice to Management

Keep your high bar for an exciting culture and team environment. It is what attracts my classmates and teammates and I suspect fuels retention

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Incredibly challenging work, working on Senior Executives' most challenging topics.
    - Passion for driving results for the clients, not just showing up to look smart.
    - Incredibly supportive culture with colleagues who want you to succeed.

    Cons

If you're going to be in the type of career that Bain offers you too, you will be working hard. Fortunately, at Bain, you know that every hour you worked was a highly leveraged one.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing to be the best at helping clients on their toughest problems and to do it in a way that makes one proud to be at Bain.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I'm not on the consulting side, which is very different, but for employees in the other functional areas (HR, Finance, Marketing, etc.), work-life balance is incredible with a lot of flexibility/autonomy. People genuinely want to help others succeed. Promotions seem to happen when they should, without putting the burden on people to advocate too much for themselves or fight to get ahead.

    Cons

There is a division between consultants and 'CSS' (non consultants), and all non-consultants can at times be treated like assistants/support staff, even at the higher levels.

    Advice to Management

Remove the term 'CSS'! Labels should be the different departments (Finance, Marketing, HR, etc). CSS does not need to be lumped together -- it causes consultants to think we are all assistants.

    Pros

Bain is a phenomenal place to learn and grow - your colleges will push you to continuously improve. It is a fun and friendly environment, full of professionals who take their work seriously, but don't take themselves too seriously. And you'll have an impact - changing companies and industries for the better.

    Cons

    Be prepared to work hard!
