I worked at Bain & Company part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Excellent work-life balance.
Company culture was all about working hard and playing hard.
    Fantastic pay and employee benefits.

    Cons

Hard to get into even with stellar grades. Long and troublesome interview process. Very elitist culture in the firm

    Advice to Management

To be more accepting and understanding of the junior staff, so as to help them grow.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time

    Pros

Working at Bain is like being in the corporate equivalent of special operations forces: the problems are tricky and the timelines intense. Your teammates are brilliant and management is highly competent. Everyone is generally quite personable and interested in personal and professional growth.

    Cons

The work-life balance is intense - the pressure to deliver results and the constant travel means that the job is as much a lifestyle as a position. The rewards are significant, but whether or not this is a trade-off you're willing to make is up to you.

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on work-life balance needs when considering staffing demands; consider what other perks might keep retention high. Benchmark alternate travel and lifestyle with peer firms.

    Pros

Great portfolio of cases. Continues to grow fast - so opportunities for people to create their own 'space' within the company.

    Cons

Travel can be tiring, though it's a structural issue in consulting. Could drive more 'commercial' mindset early at a Manager level.

    Pros

People are extremely nice and supportive. I have offers from other top consulting firms and have friends that work at those places. Bain is the only one with a unique culture that focus on people. I spent a lot of time at works, but I genuinely consider bunnies are my friends. We hanged out outside of work quite often. There is no sense of competitiveness amongst Bainies unlike other firms.

    Cons

Like any consulting jobs, the hours can be long. It is hard for employees to maintain a sustainable lifestyle. Partners travel a lot also

    Advice to Management

Please keep up the culture of Bain, that is the main reason why anyone would stay at Bain.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very sincere and structured focus on development and working relationships. Mentorship is expected and part of the DNA, not just taken up by a select few. Work is fast-paced and generally interesting. Team environment and class cohorts make Bain an incredibly fun place to work. There is true affinity amongst people here, almost to a cult-like degree (in the best sense of the word!).

    Cons

Lifestyle is generally ok but highly unpredictable. Recent local office-level cost cuts are mostly reasonable but change management could have been handled better (poor communication, with little understanding of what junior employees actually care about; explanations given seem patronizing and disingenuous). Slow promotion timeline in Asia vs. rest of Bain and competitors seems hard to justify based off capabilities of class.

    Advice to Management

Preserve the amazing culture at all costs. It is a critical differentiator from comparable competitors. The recent trend of treating junior employees like spoiled children to be alternately chastised and patronized is counterproductive. Many of us don't care that much about the cost cuts, but we do get upset when the HR council doesn't bother to at least understand our concerns BEFORE critical decisions get made.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

General management is the best way to apply your MBA skills in a strategic level. Good compensation, good teamwork and constant feedback. Mentorship is excellent and care about your career goal.

    Cons

You need to work long hours and sometimes you need to work during the weekend. Many of your recommendation may not get implemented by the clients so you may not see the real impact that you can have.

    Advice to Management
