Good pay and benefits, hard to progress if you don't "fit"

    Jun 19, 2022 - Consultant

    Pros

Lots of knowledge to leverage on Benefits and compensation People are nice (at least in front of you, away who knows)

    Cons

Very clicky, staffing opportunities vary a lot, BUT everyone is judged the same way, o if you don't get same opportunities you are well set to underperform Did not get mentors until one year in, even tho that was mentioned as a key part of the Bain advantage/experience when recruiting Long hours with those emails telling you to take care of mental health (haha when?)

I’m sorry to read about your experience. Ensuring equitable career progression, including mitigating bias in our talent processes, is an important part of our DEI – and broader talent management – efforts. I recommend talking to your consultant program manager, HR contact, or DEI office champion to discuss your concerns.

Case Interview and behavioral interview for the management consultant position at Bain and Company - Singapore, Malaysia

    Pros

General management is the best way to apply your MBA skills in a strategic level. Good compensation, good teamwork and constant feedback. Mentorship is excellent and care about your career goal.

    Cons

You need to work long hours and sometimes you need to work during the weekend. Many of your recommendation may not get implemented by the clients so you may not see the real impact that you can have.

    Best people to work with

Aug 18, 2019 - Associate Consultant in Atlanta, GA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The people -- they are without a doubt the smartest, hardest working people I know but yet still know how to have fun and build a collaborative team environment The skills -- you will learn and you will learn fast. The biggest thing I've taken away from Bain is that there are a number of questions out there that we haven't seen before and don't know how to solve, but we will figure it out. The company -- this company does so many things right; they have a very clear rubric for what is expected of you at every different role, and you can see how your role will grow and change over time. They also do a great job of giving reviews, both formal and informal to ensure that you are growing and developing over time. They also build in a lot of time to build the culture and develop a workplace that makes people want to show up.

    Cons

You don't have complete control over the projects that you work on, so you may end up doing something that you don't like. The work and the hours can be very difficult and can be unsustainable in the long run.

    Pros

You are surrounded by smart and accomplished people, they take mentoring and development seriously, and you work on variety of interesting projects.

    Cons

Be prepared to work hard - there can be long hours and travel but that comes with this kind of job.

    Non consultant roles please read

    Oct 30, 2022 - Recruiter
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

You will learn a lot of new skills quickly, and the brand name is nationally recognized. The benefits, especially in regards to medical, are phenomenal! You will work with highly motivated and competent people who will push you to grow beyond what you thought possible.

    Cons

As a recruiter, there is VERY LITTLE work life balance during heavy recruiting seasons. The culture is also heavily skewed in favor of extroverts as the plethora of events you plan can easily drain your social battery. The “zero defect” model will at times make your best work feel inadequate and can be quite toxic. Good is truly not good enough, and the demands are very stressful. Long hours are expected and the pay needs to be more competitive for the sheer volume of work given. Similarly, consultants are put on a pedestal, and l’ve witnessed instances where they are quite rude to business functions (non consulting) roles. Read the reviews from non-consultant positions before applying if you are not applying for a consultant role.
