      Pros

Collegial working environment, good work-life balance, interesting clients, good salary and fair bonus structure.

      Cons

Path to partnership increasingly difficult; visibility into the firm's strategic direction and associate management is limited for non-partners.

Genuinely nice people but path to partnership unclear and lack of leadership within some practice groups

      Pros

People are genuinely friendly and I was able to experience decent work/life balance for a big law firm. The work that I did get was substantive though and I always worked directly with partners.

      Cons

The practice group I was in lacked strong leadership, which lead to not enough work being brought in. This impacted my professional development and ended up causing many in my group to leave within a short period of time. The work/life balance had its trade offs.

      Pros

Very competitive compensation for Texas legal market; interesting matters; excellent staff support; pro bono work is rewarded with credit toward billable hour requirements; firm name is very respected in Texas.

      Cons

As with all large firms, the billable hour expectation is high and work-life balance can be difficult. Also, compensation is loaded into high salaries, with somewhat reduced benefits.

      Pros

Excellent benefits, sometimes you get a bonus (sometimes you don't), tons of PTO time, conveniently located, fun activities at times (United Way, Leukemia Foundation), great history in the city

      Cons

Catty children who like to be petty and play games are often put into positions of authority. There is no work/life balance. You are expected to be available 24/7 regardless if it's a weekend, holiday, vacation, etc.
