I have been working at Baker Distributing (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hard working people. The company is going through a tremendous growth phase and new projects keep coming up. Managers treat you an adult and does not micro manage. Casual dress during the summer months and fridays during the other 9 months.

    Cons

Playing catchup with most things. The projects are not planned out and are impulse.

    Advice to Management

Office could use some updating. Add a tuition reimbursement program.

I have been working at Baker Distributing full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have enjoyed the freedom of my outside sales position in the Atlanta market. And I really enjoy the people I work with.

    Cons

At times it feels like Baker is just too big. It can take a long time to get things done. There are too many VP's in the corporate office.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Baker Distributing full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is employment is about the only redeeming value this company has for it's employees

    Cons

Upper management gets brilliant ideas and pushes changes and then after a month or two looses interest for another huge brilliant idea from people so far out of touch with actual field level sales it is tragic.

    Advice to Management

Fire every single person in corporate and get people in these positions who have actual field level sales experience. Plus the old saying it takes money to make money. When constricting branches to save by running them so lean if one person calls in sick you only have one person at the branch is ridiculous.

    Pros

Easy computer system to learn and very good product line offering. Great customer retention also with great marketing backup. And great overall communication.

    Cons

Central ordering through a distribution center by people who have no idea what your local stock levels should be. Limit of $250 for branch managers to buy goods without going through a buyer.

    Advice to Management

Allow branch managers more of a say in what their branch stocks and the levels of inventory. Also split up the larger zones into smaller ones.

I have been working at Baker Distributing full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great room for advancement. Positions are always available due to growth or others moving around within the organization. Established brand that is respected in the industry.

    Cons

Customer service suffers due to lack of staff per corporate's guidelines. Technicians can easily visit or call any other competitor and immediately get their issues resolved in a timely manner due to more staff. It's that simple.

    Advice to Management

Loosen the reigns on staffing and employ enough personnel to cover absences. Trust the management more rather than micromanage. Their P & L and customer matrix will tell the whole story.

  11. "Rude and Hateful"

    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at Baker Distributing as a contractor

    Pros

If you don't expect professional and courteous service then this is the place for you! Best pro is getting back in your car to leave.

    Cons

Morale sucks. Customers complain of the rude treatment they receive when they come in for help. Customer went next door today to ask for help from a neighboring company. Was told where they could find what they were looking for and was treated with respect instead of the disdain they received at Bakers.

    Advice to Management

Train people to treat customers with respect and if you are the one(s) who are treating customers so poorly then dig down deep and try to find some manners.
