When O& G is good the company was a pleasure to work for but when the down turn happened it turned into a stressful work environment - as most companies would.

    Advice to Management

You need to be in the company to move up. They try and hire within if possible and provide opportunities for internal employees to move up.

    Pros

Excellent managers and training programs. The company is flexible and takes people's best interest first when looking to relocate and promote employees. They try their best to go above and beyond to make employees feel appreciated.

    Cons

Typical complaints about a large coorporation are true here as well. A lot of red tape to get simple things done.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in employee retention. Focus on keeping experienced talent to ensure that the value of knowledge is passed down to newer younger employees. Focus on long term strategy and commit to it.

I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very friendly place to work, the company does a good job hiring nice people.

    Cons

Management is comprised of people that came from the field, most don't have business backgrounds and are unaware how to adapt to current technoogly. They do not value individual thinking or insights, which is completely demoralizing for those with an entrepreneur spirt.

    Advice to Management

Need to hire professional management and develop leaders who have the skills to take the business into the future. The day of allowing engineers without any business experience to run the company needs to come to an end.

    Pros

Self supervise. They don't breathe down your neck. Plus, you would have to really screw up to get fired. 401k and Pension Plan offered.

    Cons

Lower pay than what other companies pay. Buddy system alive and well. Big wigs line their pockets before you can consider getting any. Even when they're cutting jobs.

    Advice to Management

Stop passing the buck. Take ownership and get on someone's tail. Also, give raises to the guys who get things done for you.

    Cons

There is a high turnover of auditors, and performance reviews are given to often.

    Pros

I work with really great people, and I have been given good opportunities during my tenure here. Good benefits. Some flexibility in working remotely on occasion.

    Cons

Work life balance is less than optimal; long hours are a regular occurrence and many times are required without warning which has negatively impacted family plans for me on multiple occasions.

    Advice to Management

Consider working smarter and not just harder. Consider ensuring that everyone has the tools they need to do their jobs (including technology).
