    Pros

Great leadership, your ideas are heard and you are able to implement your ideas, excellent and competitive benefits, employees are fun and down to earth

    Cons

If you live in the suburbs, you'll have to walk around the loop to get to their main office on Lake and Michigan but there are opportunities to work from home or in their Oak Brook office if needed.

    Pros

The company offers a lot of flexability when it comes to balancing personal life and work life. They treat all employees with respect.

    Cons

Tough learning curve with some aspects of the job since sometimes they fail to help educate you. Pay is a guarded secret

    Advice to Management

Keep consistent education and be open about what the pay is.

    Pros

Supports contributing time and money to charities.

    Cons

Very little work/life balance, poor leadership where bullying behavior is supported and promoted. Frat house culture where many questionable things occur that could/should get the company in legal trouble.

    Advice to Management

Check your egos at the door and take a close look at the culture you are promoting. People are afraid to speak up because the bullies will admonish them and then steal their ideas. You have very few leaders in management. Instead, you surround yourselves with suck-ups who agree with everything you say.

I worked at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Better benefits than Big 4, salary equivalent to Big 4.

    Cons

You will be overworked and learn nothing. I agree with other reviewers, specifically that there is still, many years later, an atmosphere of a cluster of small firms. I had the pleasure of working with 2 people my entire time with the firm. One, a young manager who was not very helpful and used the title as a way to come across as superior, when in fact they did not know much of anything. The other, a senior manager, who is known for being the worst person to work with. Somehow this senior manager "manages" the larger/"best" clients. There is an extreme lack of talent so the people with actual talent are being over-worked and over-utilized while others are working no more than 40 hours.

    Advice to Management

It's no secret that certain people have created a hostile work environment resulting in many departures, why is this person still there?

    Pros

Benefits are okay, paid time off is great if you are allowed to use it

    Cons

Poor communication, if someone doesn't want to take the blame for messing up they will blame it on the new person, new procedures every day

I worked at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Exposure to a wide variety of work. Given complex audit areas early on your career.

    Cons

Long hours due to consistently being under staffed on engagements and not given proper tie to wrap up engagements. You will get a pat on the back for working hard but do not expect to be compensated for your extra time. Very hard to move within the company if you decide audit or tax isn't for you.

    Advice to Management

There is a given group of employees who are always scheduled and lower performing employees are not regularly scheduled because they're deemed a lost cause quickly into their employment. Instead if having multiple high performs on the same engagements break them up and have them help the under performing staff.

Growing company. Focused on traditional tax and audit. Advisory practice is interesting with different service lines. Depending on the team, project type, the work can be challenging and fun.

    Cons

High turnover, but it seems it is common in peer companies.
Unclear strategy that seems to always shift (moving target)
Technology tools can be improved (time sheets, billing, interanet)

    Pros

Good Benefits and great work environment for a public firm if you get in the right team.

    Cons

Long hours like any other CPA firm.
New managers are coming up without much training in people handling therefore the culture is taking a hit.

    Advice to Management

Look to develop better managers and promote a more learning culture.
