Low pay and bad culturee
Jan 5, 2023 - Professor in Baldwin City, KSRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Having worked here a long time, there are friends for life that havee come and gone. Some eliminated.
Cons
Baker has different environments based on where you work. The College of Arts and Sciences in Baldwin City is different from the School of Professional and Graduate Studies in Overland Park. In general, the leadership at Baker is incompetent providing no clear direction of plan. The President is not able to put together a team that knows what it is doing and certainly does not have qualifications for the positions they hold. The pay at all locations is much below competitors in the region. You should look for work elsewhere!

Lagging salary and benefits, no raises
Sep 3, 2022 - Assistant Professor in Baldwin City, KSRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Job flexibility. Small classes. Friendly colleagues.
Cons
Lagging pay and poor benefits. Raises (even cost of living adjustments in years with very high inflation) are not common. High turnover of staff, including head of HR. Went through a period where there was no head of HR, and employees were not notified that the last one had left. Some programs are less stable than others. Reduction and reallocation occurred in 2020-2021, and firing of some tenured faculty damaged the morale and culture.

- Former Employee, more than 8 years★★★★★
Pros
Most staff are very friendly and supportive. Good work/life balance opportunities.
Cons
Pay for employees is very low. Although there are some perks for families, if you are single, childless, or done with your education those (benefits) are not at all tangible.
