I have been working at Balboa Capital full-time for less than a year

    Pros

It's definitely possible to make 6 figures here. It takes time and skills to make it happen. The skills can be taught, but it is not easy.

    Cons

Training program could be improved. High turnover, but that's the nature of sales.

I worked at Balboa Capital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good work life balance.Okay atmosphere and culture. Quarterly incentives (tickets for events, dinners) for hittng quota.

    Cons

Everyday is a grind, 150+ phone calls from early morning until the day ends. Everyone is always encouraged to call more and hit their numbers. This is entry level in finance as a telemarketer. High turnover.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with new hires, as far as what they are getting into with cold calling, accounts that have already been frequently called frequent rejection. Don't sugar coat the position, explain exactly what they will be doing, and give realistic salary goals.

I worked at Balboa Capital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The young workforce can be very friendly, depending on which division you're in

    Cons

There is a lot of shady work behind the scenes. I've seen a lot of customers blatantly lied to or had their lease contracts changed last minute before signing on the dotted line. This is a place where sensitive data including social security numbers are handled daily and yet in one of the buildings there wasn't even a paper shredder in the office. Low compensation 200+ calls per day starting out. Very... monotonous telemarketing style structure. Little career growth, hardly any opportunities for learning High turnover

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more quality control in the sales department. There are leads that get pummeled over and over yet the people have said to never call again at least a dozen times. I'm sure Management is no stranger to the deceit that has been going on in sales management as well.

    I worked at Balboa Capital

    Pros

Like the rest of the reviews have stated, it is in a nice location surrounded by other financial firms. 1. You have the flexibility to basically do your own schedule throughout the day as long as you make all your calls. 2. As long as you make your calls, it's an ok job for $30,000/yr. 3. Management and coworkers were friendly and approachable, and they seem somewhat willing to help you out. 4. Made up of... mostly new or young college grads. People there are personable to an extent. 5. I would recommend it to someone who probably just needs some extra cash until they find something better, but if you got a degree or a higher paying opportunity, jump the ship to the next best thing asap.

    Cons

    1. Just sitting at your desk for the 8 hours cold calling, and god forbid you take a break during their "power hour". 2. There does not seem to be much room for advancement. Spoke to many people and most of them couldn't recall someone being there long enough to get promoted. 3. High-turnover rate. Low Commission structure (from what I heard. I was never told the commission rate or structure, which was kind of... weird because every time it was brought up, the subject would be changed). 4. Found some of the team emails to be demoralizing. I recall a couple of them starting off with headlines similar to "If You Don't Make Your Calls, Please Submit Your Resignation" followed by a list of employees who probably fell short of their 100+ calls by like two or ten calls. 5. Young Management that at times would curse at employees out on the floor instead of speaking with them privately.

I have been working at Balboa Capital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work environment is relatively young. For the most part all managers are very kind/helpful. If you put in the time/hours you will see results. Long term career potential

    Cons

Company is growing and needs to figure out a more long term location. Base salary never increases but, commission goes up relatively quickly. High turnover as well

    Advice to Management

With the high turnover rate need to give more incentive for the better reps to stay. All in all great company
