I have been working at Baldwin & Lyons full-time

    Pros

Excellent management, forward thinking, progressive. Great work-life balance, contribution valued.

After working here for two years I truly believe the management is bringing about a much needed cultural revolution. What used to be a "good ol boys club" is now an incredible collaborative and growing environment. The benefits and work-life balance are great, but the direction the company is headed is even better.

Lucky to have a career with Baldwin. I anticipate being here for the next 30 years.

    Cons

cant think of none at this time

I have been working at Baldwin & Lyons full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    There have been few layoffs

    Cons

In my opinion it is very inconsistent in compensation and promotion versus value brought to the company.

    Advice to Management

Value the people that add value.

I have been working at Baldwin & Lyons full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

benefits, work and life balance, work perks, and co workers. They have a great fitness center, they offer free tickets to events around Indianapolis (concerts, games, etc.) you have to sign up but the fact that you have a chance to win them is great, and they also have company sponsored events for your family (movie night, pumpkin patch, Christmas at the zoo). Its very inclusive and everyone is very nice and helpful.

    Cons

too many systems to work in at once, however they are working on streamlining the systems but until then we have to use at least 3 systems for claims handling.

    Advice to Management

nothing, the only use I had is being addressed

I worked at Baldwin & Lyons full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salaries are decent. The location is excellent located near the interstate and near downtown Carmel. It is also close to the Monon and near Carmel Clay parks.

    Cons

Archaic thinking executive team. Unsupportive HR team. Helping the company grow by suggesting ideas is frowned upon. Individual development plans and succession planning does not exist.

I worked at Baldwin & Lyons (Less than a year)

    Pros

Growing, always improving, team atmosphere, fun, challenging, room to grow, excellent leadership, many opportunities, commitment to excellence,

    Cons

Compared to some companies, the compensation at Baldwin & Lyons may lean towards the lower end. However, I believe the great work environment more than makes up for this fact.

    Advice to Management

Keep pursuing excellence in everything you do. I believe the company is well on the road to success, if everyone commits themselves wholeheartedly to the values that have been put in place.

    Pros

Christmas Bonus, Event Tickets, generous 401K contribution, remodeled office with beverage centers on every floor, Office located in Carmel, IN

    Cons

No work-life balance, senior management out of touch with business needs. Culture is old school and resistant to change. Company's majority stakeholders is one family and they run the company as a country club helping out all their friends and family.

    Advice to Management

Good luck moving up in your career here.

I have been working at Baldwin & Lyons full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice co-workers. Clean environment. Fitness room.

    Cons

Have to walk on egg shells around management. Kind of tired of it at this point. Too political. Just look at many of the reviews. It's clear someone in HR or communications is writing the reviews to make the company appear welcoming. "Nothing I can think of" under Cons? Come on. Everyone can tell those reviews are not genuine. It's good that I am leaving. No doubt management will be on a witch hunt after this.

    Advice to Management

Don't use the same person to write Glassdoor reviews. We can all tell and it just makes us more suspicious of management. Offer more training and options for career advancement. Drop the "us" versus "them" mentality in management.

    I worked at Baldwin & Lyons full-time

    Pros

Nice employees; lots of community service opportunities

    Cons

No real accounting experience; no growth opportunities; repetitive "busy work", which the seniors do not wish to complete, such as reviewing claims for errors, nothing more; no interest in developing your knowledge of internal audit or accounting at all; horrible traffic, with only 1 main exit

    Advice to Management

Change the title from "Internal Audit Intern" to "Claims Review Staff", because it is very misleading to accounting students.
