    Pros

Great company historically, but it seems to have given up on its employees due to financial issues they're having.
    Really good systems, good people.

    Cons

Company seemed to be moving away from the rail industry.
Stopped training employees as it used to.

I worked at Balfour Beatty (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Office location at Victoria was good. Now moved to Canary Wharf. Good salary. IT finally got their act together but HR hilarious. Whistleblowers sidelined or sacked.

    Cons

Racist senior staff. Sexist senior staff. Health and Safety all puff - drunk staff accepted on sites if they otherwise do a 'good' job. Fraud accepted as a way of working.

    Pros

The only pro to working at Balfours is that there is a good training budget and training is accessible to staff.

    Cons

Balfours are the largest yet the worst construction company I have ever worked for. They pay lip service to key staff related issues and eighty hour expected working week is the norm at senior management level. Senior management treat the staff like dirt to fit in with the rest of senior management and if you question this you can kiss promotion to director level goodbye. Sexism is still rife as is disparity to the promotion ratio of minority groups.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the awful archaic dinosaurs at senior to director management level and take on board the innovative ideas of staff , not only at ground level but junior to senior management levels. My advise to anyone thinking of joining balfours DONT , they will run you into the ground until you burn out and leave !

I worked at Balfour Beatty as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly environment and staff. Generally supportive management with fair access to air problems and try and resolve any issues.
Good rate of pay for the work.

    Cons

Messed up systems, difficult to get agreement on processes. Unfair distribution of labour, with too much pressure on certain areas to sort out all the errors at month ends, instead of focussing on getting things right first time.
Project timescales continually slipping due to poor processes and control.

    Advice to Management

Sort out what needs to be done, and decide on the best roles to do the work to minimise errors and time wasted in revising figures.
