I worked at Balfour Beatty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with they want you to grow and offer great learning experiences. I honestly wish I could work for them again. They are really about the people that work for them which makes it that much easier to work for the company the project I was on was like family. They do really great company outings and have competitions which were really fun, they have challenges and the acknowledge the work you do for them this company understands that the people are what makes the company work and without them there would be no company. They make sure they treat you as an individual and not just like a a worker bee, they learn the type of person you are and handle things according to you not how they handle everyone one else.

    Cons

I don't have any cons from my personal experience.

    Advice to Management

Really great company overall and I'd love to join the team again!

I worked at Balfour Beatty part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great location, very beautiful property, employer gives 20% off of rent.

    Cons

Working there during the first year of Northside's opening, proved to be very challenging. There was complete miscommunication between management and the residents, and in turn, caused all of the residents to become extremely aggravated and vent their problems onto the resident specialist. Sometime this couldn't be helped due to the arrogance of the construction team, which thought that they could jackhammer concrete at any time of the day/night without letting management know and disrupting the tenants sleep. However, I have noticed that the communication has gotten better...of course after I have left the position. This job was incredibly stressful, but did teach me a lot of useful knowledge about the industry which will better serve me in my career. One more negative aspect of the position was the low commission pay. I could sell a three bedroom apartment, and only make $50 off of commission, and that was the best scenario. A lot of the leases only offer $20 of commission.

    Advice to Management

Communicate better between upper management, construction, and the residents of the property. There were many issues that could have been avoided if a simple email would have been sent to the residents, informing them about whats going on around the property. INCREASE THE COMMISSION!!! I interviewed at another property that had similar rent prices as Northside, and the leasing agents made close to $300 in commission per lease. It is hard to make a living off of a $20 commission per lease.

    Pros

Diversified construction portfolio, in business for a very long time with good references and impressive body of work

    Cons

UK based parent company impacts US based projects, reporting, and financials. When in trouble a few years ago, they reorganized upper management and cut workforce, stating cash is king philosophy via new CEO.

    Pros

    Lots of good people

    Cons

Dishonesty at the higher levels of management

    Advice to Management

BBII doesn't offer anymore or less than your competitors. The best way to beat them, is to have an experienced staff. But to have this, your team will need to place a higher priority on their employees.
