    Pros

    Good Pay and decent benefits

    Cons

Very Noisy, managers don't own up to their mistakes, they want you to work extra 12 hour days almost every week

I worked at Ball Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people there are great. Easy to get along with of course you'll have a couple of knuckle heads that just don't get it (the lazy ones). Team oriented group that likes to achieve goals in a fast pace environment with safety awareness in everyone's mind. Salary is great, one of the best paying jobs I've ever had.

    Cons

Management is dreadful. Over the years the trust between management and hourly employees continues to grow to the point of no return. What once was a good/decent manager group to where you can go and have a private conversation is now no where to be found. If you have some concerns or something to say about where the plant is going, they don't want to hear it. It's their way or the highway. Each year new employees are hired that have relationships (family/friends) with management and are promoted to Lead or Management positions in less than 2-3yrs with little to no experience in their respective department. They have turned their cheeks to the men and women who sacrifice countless hours making the Fairfield Ball Plant one of the best for Ball Corporation. The people there care about their jobs and when those speak the truth about managements decisions, you end up getting a "target on your back" and on your way out within a years time. Training has gotten worse over the years due to them cutting back on employees, your lucky to be trained the right way. Benefits should be better then what they provide, Retail Stores have better options.

    Advice to Management

Stop only caring about yourselves. We know that this Fairfield plant is your stepping stone to relocate elsewhere. Show your employees respect and don't under mind them or intimidate those that can be intimidated. The reason morale is so low is because Management has shown that their way is the only way and no one can stand against them because if they do, they'll be hanging out at the unemployment line.

I worked at Ball Corporation (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. That is all.

    Cons

Ball Corp does not care about the individual. Money is bottom line. Horrible managers, horrible hours...do not recommend working here. Worked here over 11 yrs, only got worse, never better.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees on the floor....most actually know what they are talking about. Hire people!!!!! Workers here are SO burned out! TRAIN people!!! Safety # 1 is a complete joke. People are running machines without any training. Too many negatives to mention all of them.

    Pros

Pay was excellent. The people who worked there were good people. Decent benefits. That's all I can say good about the job.

    Cons

Management was very indecisive, and did not know what they were doing. The work environment is very hot, and high stress. Terrible training and leadership. Too many cliques, they promote people without knowledge or ability. All in all a money trap, make too much money to do the sane thing, and walk away.

    Advice to Management

Do everyone a favor, and try to do the job you ask of your associate for a month. Then maybe you would understand.

I worked at Ball Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay was decent for market area. Good people to work with. Good benefits.

    Cons

Poor management in plant. Corporate and lower management didn't work well together. Turnover on management employees was ridiculous. Instead of fixing problems with the system, they fired or moved the employees.

    Advice to Management

Get a system that works and train employees better. Get better production systems. Would bother managers at all times of the day when problems arise, which was often. Need to develop a better work/life balance issue for people and care about their employees more.

    Pros

    - Compensation
    - Benefits (once you become eligible for pension)

    Cons

    - Not open to change or new ideas. Management acknowledges this and does nothing
    - Promotions are questionable, movement up because they like you or you have been with the company for a long time, instead of skills and experience
    - People who have been with the company for a long time and wants things how it was long ago
    - Silos, no team work with other departments, so bad communication, lots of work to fix something simple, wasted time and effort, complaints of being busy
    - HR manager for packaging, needs to improve her people skills since she is suppose to work with people
    - Management don't follow their own policies and make exceptions
    - They say work life balance but really there is none

    Advice to Management

    - Move on, the company is no longer a small family company
    - Micro managers, trust the people working for you and that they bring new ideas, don't try to make someone exactly like you
    - Really reassess the people in management roles because some of them really should not be doing what they were promoted to

    Pros

Many people are long-term (career) employees. They know the company, they are committed to doing a good job, and they work hard. They care about the company and its successes. This is one of the few remaining places where many people work their entire careers.
Ball provides very good benefits for their employees. It emphasizes health and savings for the future. Health care options are reasonable and broad enough to accommodate different needs. Ball pays a significant part of the costs.
Ball still provides a pension plan in addition to 401(k), including match. There is no fixed number of sick days, and my experience is that people do not abuse this. After 5 consecutive days, short-term disability kicks in.

    Cons

Long-term employment can engender the "we've always done it this way" mentality. Change is difficult.
Management deficiencies are not addressed in a timely manner. Departments founder while senior management looks the other way.
Growth by acquisition with no defined process for integration has made Ball a corporation of individual entities. There are no common processes, which causes inefficiencies and engenders errors. Each manufacturing plant works differently. None wants to change. There is no standardization, which means there is no common ground and no basis for comparison. Power plays abound.
Old school reigns. Technology is resisted. Attracting and retaining younger, motivated employees is a problem

    Advice to Management

Review HR exit interviews -scuttlebutt is they are stuck in a folder and never looked at. Ask HR about the feedback they're getting - and tell them you want the truth. Ask for information from line employees. Review departmental managements' claims. Dig into the details. Look at department trends - turnover, promotions, organization (regular reorganizing, levels of management, direct report numbers). Don't believe the spin.

I have been working at Ball Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is good and the benefits are as well. Some of the supervisors and leaders will try to help you.

    Cons

To many other supervisors stuck in the pressure style environment. Even if you work hard, if they don't like you then you are screwed over with all the overtime while others get time off. To many cover ups. Supervisors will run lines even with known faults that will cause defective products.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. There is a reason that multiple employees have quit or left departments. Just because you have time away from the job doesn't mean we want to spend all of our time there.

I worked at Ball Corporation as a contractor

    Pros

The pay rate is higher than other, comparable low skill jobs.

    Cons

The work pace is unreasonable and training is inadequate.

    Advice to Management

You need to rethink your lid packaging operation. There are too many manual operations involved.

    Pros

The Company truely cares about the employees. Ball Corporations is also the leader in the Packaging and Containers industry and is poised for growth in the future.

    Cons

Poor systems that cannot support the size of the business. Executive leadership that is stuck in the past and still thinks they can run a global corporation using the same old methods that they have used for 135 years. They are not progressive or systematic in their thought process.

    Advice to Management

It is time to turn the executive leadership team over to some more progressive leaders that can lead this company into the future. Westerlund specifically is holding back the Administration and HR groups.
