I worked at Ball Corporation as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management seemed to care about the well-being of their employees, even short-term interns and co-ops.

    Cons

Inconsistent pace of work, sometimes there would be not enough work to go around and at other times we would be drowning in it

    Pros

Ball pays interns great and the people are very good to work with. Everyone is willing to help you with any problem or concern.

    Cons

Can be a bit over whelming at times. Certain days are extremely busy. Some parts of the plant are tough to work in.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a great job. I loved working with everyone. Management was extremely nice and treated everyone as equals

I have been working at Ball Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The schedule allows for 7 out of 14 days off. Overtime is managed appropriately. The work load is steady but not overwhelming. Room for advancement and a great compensation package. Made an effort to notify us of closure far in advance with a fair severance package. Have also made efforts to offer employees the opportunity to relocate to other facilities but at a significant loss in wages. Overall it has been an excellent place to work.

    Cons

They're closing the location where I'm employed and moving to Mexico. Other than the fact that I'm soon to be unemployed. I truly have minimal negative feedback to offer.

    Advice to Management

Always engage your hourly experts in decision making. They know best how to do their job and have much to offer process improvement goals..

I worked at Ball Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Started out there when it was US CAN. Enjoyed working with friendly people. Pay was good, benefit was good. Pretty good environment to to at.

    Cons

Well can't really say there's a con, because in my opinion, I'm there to work, so have to do what I am told to do. Yes there are days that kinda wore you out and days that are smooth sailing. It's a good place to work and it pays the bills. Main con is that it shut down. I would've have stayed there if it wasn't shut down

    Advice to Management

Some of the managers could've been more relax, meaning don't hound the maintenance guy while he's working on the machine, because no one wants to leave the lines down more then we have too. That's where the money's at. Yes it gets stressful at time, but not making it any better by putting pressure. Overall, everyone was trying to do their job and it's understandable they'll be days of frustration.

I worked at Ball Corporation as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Machine operator job isn't horrible, the pay was nice, good team spirit for most of the team, good supervisors

    Cons

Upper level management more into show than actual implementation, lots of "deadwood" floating about protected by union, last minute overtime

    Advice to Management

Try to bridge the gap between the upper level management and the workers and corporate and the workers, try to respect the temps who come in because many come in under the idea they have a chance to be hired on permanently. Also, promote and reward those who deserve it rather than those who are just there and connected to the company by family workers

I have been working at Ball Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees are helpful and supportive. Company tries to give kudos by offering service awards for every 5 years of service. Compensation is very competitive.

    Cons

Many people working at Ball are contingent, or contract workers. Frustrating when many have years of service, but are still in contract positions. (Benefits do not have to be paid out that way.)

    Advice to Management

Better consideration should be given to those you keep (as contingent workers), as far as hiring them on permanently. Does it make sense to have to train new employees over and over? Or utilize those who obviously have been doing a good job for you -- (without benefits).
