I worked at Ball Horticultural full-time

    Pros

Forward looking company; relaxed work environment; great co-workers; interesting, complex industry

    Cons

Seasonal business can be extremely stressful at times and then very slow at others (though the busy times far exceed the slow); Antiquated "business casual" dress code

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the dress code, otherwise this is a great company to work for- many people spend heir whole careers here for a reason

I have been working at Ball Horticultural full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Everything is done to put the customer first (whether or not it is warranted) They care about all employees and their families. They really try to do what is right by each person. Depending on the position, flexibility isn't he workday is possible.

    Cons

No clear direction on how to achieve the goals they want. Way too much focus on the millennial and forgetting about the mid-manager levels. Very flat organization with minimal room to advance. Not competitive with salary.

I worked at Ball Horticultural full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, international exposure, lots of chances to learn a lot about the horticultural world. Create some great networking relationships

    Cons

No real / valid training offered. Sometimes it feels like the employees are not valued for their work. Dedicated employees are pushed to their limit, and never rewarded for their dedication and hard work, which can be downright demoralizing

    Pros

Benefits of working for large company including profit sharing; Many very qualified, hard-working co-workers; Some employees have a lot of autonomy in their daily work.

    Cons

Very limited room for advancement; Very little sincere gratitude for a job well done; Upper management in some divisions very out of touch with the industry; Lower than average pay

I worked at Ball Horticultural full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pleasant work environment, educated employees, lovely gardens, on site café. Anna Ball is very active with management and has a professional worth ethic which makes her employees want to work hard for her.

    Cons

Because there is very little turnover many people reach their own level of incompetentcy rather quickly - but yet think they are brilliant. The company has difficulty staying the course and is distracted by what they believe to be the next big thing. No succession planning and most management is close to retirement age or should have retired 10 years ago. Management can be self serving ignoring what is right and correct. Low salaries and annual review increases are typically less than 2%.

    Advice to Management

There are quite a few bad in the company that stir up a lot over dramatized drama in company that hold important positions. I have witnessed them band together to reduce the efficiencies and impose failure obsticles to those employees they believe are smarter or have a better career path. Evilness is alive at Ball Horticultural Company - just ask a few of the hardest working folks there!

A lot of folks stuck in their ways. There is a lot of "We have done it this way for years, we arent going to change it now"

    Pros

Great place to learn a lot about the horticulture industry! If you're actively pursuing new ideas and different opportunities, upper level management is helpful with getting projects started.

    Cons

Large company and slow to change.

"A great place to learn the industry"

    Star Star Star Star Star

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Ball offers opportunity to experience many different opportunities to experience the horticultural industry. Everything from breeding, product management, production, sales and marketing are under the umbrella company. Some fantastic and supportive people and the care about their employees.

    Cons

It's a very flat organizational structure. Can be good because you get to interact with all levels of management, but opportunity to move up is limited resulting in many talented individuals moving on. The mantra seems to be 'hang in there five more years and people will retire' and that's too long to put your career on hold.

    Pros

This is a great place to work, tons of room for growth and development. They offer full benefits and a great work life balance.

    Cons

Quite a bit of politics plays into promotions in some departments. Pay is low in comparison to similar positions in other industries.
