I worked at Ball State University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I worked two positions and Ball State, one as an undergrad and one as a graduate assistant. Supervisors are generally very aware that their student employees are students first, employees second. Employers are usually willing to be flexible with a student employee's schedule (within reason). Can provide an opportunity to work with people in your field depending on what your interest or focus is.

    Cons

There really isn't any opportunity for advancement (but that doesn't always matter to a student employee)

I worked at Ball State University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

My graduate assistantship was enough to cover my rent and other living expenses from month to month (but not much more).

    Cons

I didn't learn anything through my assistantship (i.e., faculty members in the program I was enrolled in treated graduate assistants as though we were paid to do any/all tasks rather than those which would provide opportunities to improve research or teaching skills).

I worked at Ball State University for more than a year

    Pros

As a research assistant, I had a lot of room to define my own goals. I had access to state of the art technology. I had a top notch professor who guided me with an open hand.

    Cons

There is no such thing as work life balance. All of the Graduate Assistants were walking zombies who slept only every few nights.
