Working in a field where we help people each day, impacting their heath and fitness positively is a rewarding experience.

    Cons

Sometimes the hours are long and in the service industry you must be flexible in your scheduling.

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring great personnel. Continue with sales training staff development.

I worked at Bally Total Fitness full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Loved working for this company. They let you run the fitness department as your own business and implement what you want as long as its within their standards and guidlines. Very solid feeling of team environment among the fitness managers. I could pick up the phone and call any other fitness manager for advice, help, or anything else I may have needed.

    Cons

They were constantly reducing bonus opportunities while raising goals.

    Advice to Management

Raising goals is fine as long as you give them bonus opportunities that justify the goals.

    Cons

No real cons. Long hours but it went by fast. It was a sales environment and that is not for everyone

I worked at Bally Total Fitness full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This cutting edge Health Club offered upward mobility in every area. I advanced through management very quickly based on my sales performance. Supervisors were very supportive. Great pay! Achieved 100,000k in income before I left.

    Cons

Very long work days. Typical day was 12 hrs. Pay scale would change sometimes based on a large contract sold. Too much travel on the last half of my career. Was gone too long from my family

    Advice to Management

To select sales staff demanding a very high standard and work ethics.

I worked at Bally Total Fitness full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

CIO was very aggressive about new technology and permitted a loose, happy work environment - all the while pushing us to be a high-functioning team. Best team environment I've even seen.

    Cons

The business was poorly managed. They grew by acquisition, not by organic growth, taking on too much debt, and ultimately dying in paroxysms of bankruptcy cycles.

    Advice to Management

Natural growth is always better (when possible) than buying competition - unless it's at a firesale.

I have been working at Bally Total Fitness full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Super chill work environment. Get to wear sweats, nikes, and t-shirt to work. Very good pay. If you hustle can even make much more.

    Cons

The only con I can think of is when you start in the sales team the only leads you can use are basically the cold internet leads. You get no walk ins (which are the easiest to sell). At least this is how it was at my gym. This did make me a hustler though.

    Advice to Management

One of my general managers micromanaged. No need to micromanage in sales. Simply fire them.

    Cons

Hard work and if you dont get any customers your pay will suck. People usually go off of how you look yourself and not your knowledge

    Advice to Management

    Its not a bad job

Pay not that good; career opportunities sometimes shut down if you are not well liked by management

    Advice to Management

    Pay your people better
