I have been working at Baltimore City Public School System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hours, summers off, rewarding work, benefits, salary

    Cons

Behaviors not managed well at administrative level, principal only worried about getting her raise, HR has no clue what they’re doing, lack of support staff (elementary classes do not have paras unless KG or PRE-K)

    Advice to Management

How can a teacher manage a class of 25-30 students without a para and effectively teach???? To much focus on data!!!! Bring back people resources like reading specialist and mentor teachers and the data may actually improve.

    Pros

Great benefits. Great people to work with.

    Cons

Quality of life is poor. Excessive hours before, during, and after school.

    Advice to Management

Add support staff to manage and help students during non-classroom hours. Let teachers teach and work, reduce useless PD's.

I have been working at Baltimore City Public School System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

most of the kids are really great and I loved getting to teach them and mentor them. it is an important job that is rewarding and you are doing some real good in the world. Teachers are so important.

    Cons

the few trouble makers can break the entire thing. You will not have the supplies you need to do the job, which is typical for any school. Most buildings have heating and pest problems. the usual stuff for an underfunded and corrupt system. Your work life balance will be quite bad, but I am told that it gets better the longer you stay.

    Advice to Management

Teachers need support when having to deal with challenging students and parents as well as supplies.
