I worked at Banana Republic part-time

    Pros

Great peer Associates and amazing Customers.

    Cons

The Management structure offers no motivation or team support during shifts. The Associates look in-motivated. An Assistant Manager commented that people do not stay long......I can see why. Spotted 2 of the Assistants in the back gossiping about their hard working associates. These 2 offered nothing 2 the Team and it's growth. Sales were ran by each hour through the transmitters without any passion or motivation......I had seen associates pull the earpieces out during these communications evidently because of the managements lack of motivation. The Management structure likes to primarily ring, leaving the cleaning and folding to associates. Managers watch you like fashion police on the dress code, but show up less than fashionable and brand representing themselves.

    Advice to Management

Have the Managers work along side the team especially on the floor.

I have been working at Banana Republic part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    50% off discount
    Sales associates are really sweet
    Overall good vibe
Good pay (little over minimum wage)
    A lot of down time

    Cons

Constantly asking people if they want to open a banana card.
It gets annoying and uncomfortable at times.
One of my managers even told me she didn't care if we sounded like robots, she wants us to ask everyone about the card.
Not being properly trained on the register. I basically taught myself.
Customers are always coming in with a defective item...for a store that is on the pricer side, you would think there clothes would be a good quality.
Store manager was horrible. Treats the customer poorly.....

    Advice to Management

Don't put so much pressure on sales associates. We manage a lot being on the floor.

I worked at Banana Republic part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

30% employee discount. After 6 months raise. There's really
Not much I had a bad store in athens,ga where management and associates never follow company policy and got harassed

    Cons

Bad employees and management. Was harassed because I'm gay and never got talked to or taught very well in the job

    Advice to Management

Stop being rude to your employees and don't do favoritism. Not professional at all.

I worked at Banana Republic part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discounts on clothes at BR and Gap are great!

    Cons

Management was solely-focused on opening credit cards versus focusing on happy customers. Management doesn't really train you they just want you to sell credit cards. Not too focused on customer service

    Advice to Management

Do more to make it not seem like we are badgering customers to meet quotas. Commission perhaps? More incentives?

I have been working at Banana Republic (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Flexible schedule, ability to work from home when needed
    - Recognized brand looks good on resume
    - 50% off employee discount

    Cons

    - Top-heavy. Too many managers, not enough do-ers
    - Low morale on digital teams
    - Constant changes in leadership and strategy
    - Lack of resources and functional tools (and no budget to invest in anything new)
    - Lack of ownership and accountability
    - Poor communication from leadership
    - Constant "fire drill" mentality makes it difficult to do good work
    - Unclear objectives, goals are not set or communicated
    - Difficult to move up or gain new skills
    - Not much put into employees. It's easy to feel disposable.
    - Employees haven't received a bonus in several years, and many didn't even get raises in 2017
    - Brand as a whole seems confused about its product and its customer

    Advice to Management

Put more effort into improving the culture and morale of employees. Listen to their ideas. Allow them and trust them to make their own decisions. It doesn't make sense that the only time upper leadership interacts with the teams is when they're looking for somebody to blame for the company's poor performance.

I worked at Banana Republic part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, good people, easy shifts (in the morning), understanding managers / bosses, frequent breaks

    Cons

Lights can get very bright, crowds start to accrue in the evenings, store can get very warm

    Advice to Management

The management at the Tulalip store should continue doing what they're doing, although three of my managers have since left.

    Pros

    Meet some great customers
    Great sale

    Cons

    Terrible managers
    Horrible hours
    Bad quality clothes
    Desperate
    Don't value there hard workers.
There it's not about what you can do it about who you know and likes you. I was there for almost 2 years and they wouldn't move me up. But they had me running the women's floor. I was the manager of the women's floor. Pay is terrible with gap inc. The cashier lead for the same pay as assiocates!!!!!!! Don't work for a company that clothes fall apart easy.

    Advice to Management

Get out the office and actually be on the floor. Own up to your wrongs. Appreciate the workers who break their backs for you.

I worked at Banana Republic full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good employee discount
Good benefits for full time employees
    Many locations make it convenient
Working at Banana Republic is better than digging ditches...unless you love to dig ditches

    Cons

C level execs chase the market instead of lead
Too many young high school kids that cant grasp the business and just want to look cool instead of work
Brand core identity changes too frequently
No solid strategy or practice for talent recruitment
Designers design core customer out of store every two years
Every day implementation of massive discounts has created a bargain shopping environment not in line with brand image
Business since 2013 has been in steady decline according to CEO and President of brand and there is no clear path to recovery except personnel cuts

    Advice to Management

Focus on your people. Take each day as an opportunity to impact lives. Don't chase the dollars. Listen. My manager did not listen and it cost the store thousands of dollars for repairs after a water tank that had been eroding away for years finally burst after repeated warnings by me that it would.
