I have been working at Banana Republic part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great staff - everyone is really chill/relaxed/funny, but also driven to work (not just stand around).

Great "Perks": Great Employee Discount! Gap Inc. also has perks for other things, such as discounted movie tickets, phone bill plans, and electronics.

Great Clientele - The city of Emeryville/Bay Area (in general) hosts some of the nicest and most diverse people you will meet. You will indeed face some snobby/unpleasant customers, but overall people are chill and you won't have to worry about facing too many "let me speak to your manager"-type people.

    Cons

Can be slow; weekday mornings/early afternoons there are few customers, so shifts can feel long and dull.

Tedious tasking: many times the managers will remind you to continue folding or approach customers even when the store is completely silent/dead. You definitely get the feeling that you're only folding to "look like you're being productive".

I worked at Banana Republic part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great discount (50%), easy to get hired

    Cons

I worked at two separate locations, one of which was in Tampa while the other was in Miami. Generally speaking, I had a far better experience in Tampa. They utilized an app called shift messenger that allowed you to pick up and give away shifts, which ended up being where the majority of my hours came from. In Miami, I suggested the feature to the general manager and he literally just stared at me blankly and ignored me. Don't work here if you expect your opinions to hold any weight. The management expects you to have full-time availability but I was lucky to be scheduled for more than 15 hours a week in four-five hour long shifts. Management gives very short shifts because they don't like giving breaks. They place a very strong over-emphasis on selling credit cards and encourage you to harass customers into opening a card. Most of my coworkers were great people, but many were grouchy old women who were unbelievably rude. No opportunity for advancement, very low pay. You can get paid more for the same kind of work at other generic retail shops. No surprise the company has a very low retention rate.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees better

I worked at Banana Republic part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work here if you like the Gap family discount.

    Cons

Was part-time but was given about 30 to close to 40 hours a week sometimes, might as well have been given some sort of benefits, cause the pay wasn't worth the hassle with customers/management.

    Advice to Management

Stop forcing workers to sign people up for a high-interest rate credit card. No matter how hard You try to spruce up the benefits, I should have to get a minimum of sign-ups.
