Overall, it was a good work experience and our store had a strong group of associates.

The discount throughout Gap companies is a nice perk, i.e. Banana Republic, Gap, and Old Navy. Another pro is the increase in wage for employees across all brands.
Cons
The emphasis on the credit cards is absurd and there is little incentive offered for doing well. Outside of that, there should be more opportunities for advancement, and the GM should be more involved in daily aspects of the store to assure success.

I basically got to go there and as long as I did my job, I was alright. Liked my coworkers and managers. I could pickup shifts and have other people pick my shifts up.
Cons
Management was really tough on getting credit cards and emails

Pros
The 50% off full price items is amazing and the additional 10% on sale items.
Cons
There's a lot of pressure on you to get people to open up credit cards.

Lovely coworkers and customers, awful management
Jan 26, 2015 - Sales Associate in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Very generous discount at all Gap brands, coworkers were awesome - some I know will be lifelong friends. The emphasis and focus that the company has for customer service is impressive. Product gets better and better - very good at keeping up with the times.
Cons
No room whatsoever for personal growth. Management awful - inconsistencies with explanations of policies, lack of interest and care in employees' personal needs/concerns (after asking every leader to meet with them about problems I had, I was either ignored or pushed aside) There also seemed to be a lot of favoritism for employees that got a lot of credit cards. The push from management on to the employees to get customers to sign up for cards was ridiculous. Same goes for the Embark program. No comp for parking, or transportation assistance of any kind, despite the fact that the store is located downtown. Attendance policies are confusing and ridiculous.

A Good College Job, I guess

- Good Pay - Fosters interpersonal skills and also a great start to a resume - Management is great at respecting student's schedules
Cons
- Theft: may only pertain to city locations, but it is annoying and borderline dangerous for the staff; corporate doesn't care at all and won't do anything to stop it. - Really pushes for associates to sell their credit cards; really annoying and unnecessary. They claim it's to build 'loyalty', but honestly, the same could be done with a rewards program, and we all know they are greedy and want the interest that comes with the cards.

Cons
Shady management-supervisors werent respectful of their staff Rude employees-employees only cared about doing as little work as possible Company credit cards- during the holiday season there was a daily quota and when it was unmet MANAGEMENT asked employees to sign up for these credit cards!

Company trying to bilk money from former employee

typical retail, maybe the discount is ok
Cons
Beware of trying to quit. They will tell you that you off for PTO used and health benefits. I left without taking my full year's allowance of PTO and yet they were charging me a few hundred dollars. Then I wrote and told them that I did not owe and they sent a letter saying I owed for health benefits from after I quit. They should have stopped the benefits, not charge me for them. I did not use any of the benefits during that time, so they should just reverse the charges. Everyone that works there is super fake and all they care about is if you open up Banana Republic credit cards. When did retail stores sell their souls to banks? Do yourself a favor and don't try to work there or they will think you owe them forever

Pros
The employee discount is great. If you have to work retail it's nice to be at a more upscale store like Banana Republic. The customers are fine most of the time.
Cons
If you work at the Factory Store which is like an outlet, they hire minors. This can lessen your chances of having adult conversation in the break room. There is also pressure to open up credit cards like at a lot of other retailers.

Pros
Coworkers are great, great place to meet new people.
Cons
This is by far the worst place I've worked in. Management is terrible. Employees are under so much pressure to repeatedly ask customers to open credit cards and consistently pester guest. Also, you would not believe the level of micromanagement for a retail store. There is ALWAYS something they feel you could be doing better. I have never felt the urge to write something about the company until their response to COVID. Firstly, Banana Republic was one of the first stores to open after the initial lock down and one of the only stores to have open fitting rooms. We are required to sanitize rooms with sanitizing sprays after each use, which is fine. That is, until, you've been in fitting rooms for more than an hour. I noticed I was having headaches after my shifts and realized that mostly happened when I was in the fitting rooms for most of my shift. Secondly, Banana Republic was not ACTUALLY 'requiring' face masks company wide up until August 1st (which is a lie btw). As of August 1st it is required for customers to wear mask, however we are not allowed to refuse service to anyone without one. Ridiculous. How is that a 'requirement'? they care more about their brand image than their employees. Thirdly, there is NO commission. Customers are always under the impression that we earn commission which is NOT true, we don't earn commission for sales or for credit cards. There is zero incentive for either, just pressure from management giving us constant reminders and 'training'. However, store leads and mangers earn hefty bonuses. Management is so strict on us. We are looked down upon if we talk among coworkers during a slow hour. We are expected to size and fix the store (hey management- both can be done simultaneously).
