I worked at Banfield Pet Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits. Great training, excellent opportunity for someone who is new to the field. Defined chain of command that is clearly outlined and the company advocates that they are there to help you (whether it be employee conflict or general concerns). Good separation from work and personal like, they are big on "not taking your work home."

    Cons

The company has unrealistic expectations for number of patients seen per day and leads to every day being appointments booked, but in reality you are overbooked. Minimal room for walk ins, but company is very firm on they do not want customers turned away. They hire veterinarians who are brand new out of vet school, but offer them no mentors and rarely pair them with another experienced doctor.

    Advice to Management

Please reconsider the value of "quality over quantity" when it comes to patient care and how appointments are booked. 30 minutes for a sick patient visit is not long enough, I don't care what research or beta tests showed. I worked at multiple locations and the BBE has set employees up to fail. Need to be more aware of confidence, knowledge, and capabilities of new veterinarians. I have seen new veterinarians at Banfield experience burn out due to lack of mentorship, malpractice (and it's not the veterinarian's fault as they were set up to fail), and new veterinarians losing confidence in their medical training. Also, when hospital support staff are working with veterinarians in this situation this well-being trickles down.

I worked at Banfield Pet Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

At corporate office, you get to work with some amazing people! Banfield has a beautiful office where you can bring your pets. discount on mars candies. professional development,

    Cons

Lost the vision of what they do. They only care about how many hospitals they open while existing hospitals can staff up. too much work and lean teams limit time to work on required development which everyone rushes to check the box at end of year.

    Advice to Management

Remember why you do what you do

I have been working at Banfield Pet Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Salary compared to private practices
    -Yearly bonuses
    -Yearly raises
    -Supportive field director

    Cons

    -micro management from corporate office
-corporate office out of touch with what is good for hospitals and associates/what is "engaging"
-things generally seem more about money and not the pets
-corporate "charges" hospitals to cancel plans or fix plans that upgraded by mistake - no services used? they take the money from the hospital anyway.
-CTS associates regularly are rude to hospital associates over the phone.
-CTS chooses to continually open dozens of hospitals when current hospitals aren't staffed with doctors or need upgrades and repairs.
-CTS does not generally spend money wisely.

    Advice to Management

You're hiring people who LOVE pets. Make it more about the pets and less about the money and you will have "engaged" associates. Stop treating us badly when WE pay your salary. When is the last time you helped a sick pet or dealt with a angry client?

I worked at Banfield Pet Hospital part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Benefits, discounts. Loved the doctors and co workers. I loved the job and would have liked to continued to practice at Banfields.

    Cons

When I was hired on, I was suppose to have trained for 2 weeks on the computer system that was used, going through videos and test before being put up front with clients. That never happened, I was put there the 2nd day on the job never finishing my studies. I opened by myself with clients waiting in line to check their pets in. This was very stressful at opening, trying to complete notes for doctors at check in. get the pet to the back, write their names and what was going to be done on a white board for doctors, then going back for the next pet.

    Advice to Management

Let your Client Service Coordinators complete the training needed to be able to carry out their duties for each customer. I loved working there but very stressful under those conditions. I would still love the opportunity to work with Banfield again.
