Strong work culture - employees are respected and given authority to serve their customers. Engaged and talented staff. Strong commitment to family, work/life balance, ongoing development and recognition! Customer-centric. Impressive community participation.

    Cons

Work on increasing workplace diversity. More structured career advancement.

Model Values even when no one is watching. Hold individuals not demonstrating company vision & values more accountability.

I worked at Bangor Savings Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, great pay relative to other employers in the area, great coworkers as the bank has first picks in the market.

    Cons

Lost its vision as a mutual bank, starting to behave like every other corporate bank with ever increasing sales goals. Branches held to higher goals than back shop departments, disportionately affecting yearly bonuses and raises.

    Pros

Engaged employer. Really want employees to be successful.

    Cons

Same as with any employer. If you don't click with your supervisor, it can make things more challenging for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Please give employees an avenue to provide feedback on direct management in a safe way.

I worked at Bangor Savings Bank full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Customers and Team members. Enjoyed the working conditions along with the hours of service. Great customer support staff behind the scenes.

    Cons

Management both in branch and HR did not see beyond the issue when presented to them even after it was proven there was an issue. When management wanted you out they found a way.
Salary not as good as it should be.

    Pros

Company overall cares for their employees and provides extensive perks and incentives.

    Cons

Lots of politics, a lot of things happening behind the scenes, and at times this borders inappropriate and unprofessional. Company does not have infrastructure in place for the exponential growth in York County which impacts employees and customers.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees more thoughtfully when suggestions are made.

I worked at Bangor Savings Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

BSB had a top reputation for servicing customers. Under new management since Jim Conlon retired, there has been some sort of a shake up and the goals are changing. We were told to cut conversations short with customers who like to speak with their bank rep. Nowadays, volume and sale of services have become the top goal. Some regular customers have noticed the change and say they don't like it.

    Cons

During the transition, the bank NEVER delivered on it's promises to advance my career and give me opportunities to grow. Schedules were always unpredictable, making it impossible to supplement my meager income with a second job (although I am well aware that's the same with many banks).

    Advice to Management

The new management seems worse and hard nosed, not caring about personnel, just about numbers... does that remind anybody from BofA? It is hard to understand why corporations tend to lose sight of the morale and motivation of their employees when they grow.
How long will BSB be able to retain its prime reputation before too many people notice?
We have a choice of local S&Ls here, and I hear they are busy opening new accounts.
