I have been working at Bank of America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of things to learn, trial by fire

    Cons

Verbally abused on a regular basis. Group spends a lot of time recruiting, but little time keeping employees. Every analyst and associate is interviewing for something else.

I worked at Bank of America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits, nice area of the country in which to work.

    Cons

Merrill Lynch runs the combined company's investment banking division now, and Merrill is not a good company to work for - very dysfunctional. Merrill's preferred approach to problems is to throw money and people at them without limit. As anyone who's read "The Mythical Man Month" knows, this is not an effective approach to problems in software development.

    Advice to Management

Don't work here. It was a great place to work up till 2008. Not anymore.

I worked at Bank of America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Had up to date hardware & software, good benefits.
My manager was good, above him, management was very short term oriented.
Had good and competent people as coworkers - while they lasted.

    Cons

Always felt like your job was in danger of being outsourced. Eventually it was.

    Advice to Management

Your IP is important, don't give it away to consultants who will share it with other companies to get jobs from them. The salary differential is a short term advantage, don't lose the experts who know your business to meet short term cost cutting goals.

    Pros

Good pay. Benefits seemed good although I was contracting at the time. It's a large company so there is a wide variety of opportunity, provided you can get to it.

    Cons

Organizational turmoil. It took 3-4 weeks to get items like computer, phone, and all necessary software tools and access privileges to do my job. Different forms, processes, people to deal with for each piece of software you need.

    Advice to Management

Honestly, B of A is too big to be managed effectively. At the very least they need to do a better job consolidating their IT operations.

    Pros

Fortune 500 company in financial services that is strong in my opinion. The people I worked with were nice and quite competitive. It bodes well for personality growth

    Cons

I think it is a very good company to work for. cant think of cons except that since it is so huge, there is a good amount of red tape.

    Advice to Management

The management I have been exposed to is very professional generally speaking. My advive would be to be a bit more street smart compared to wall street
