I worked at Bank of America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A great place for a young person to start out to get a variety of experience and training: lots of entry points, lots of locations. Very interested and active in local communities, with plenty of fun volunteer activities for employees and their friends/family (paid leave up to 8 hours/month for volunteer work, plus $5/hr donated to the charity) which makes work more fun (and great for networking). Lots of opportunities for technical contract work. Ambitious people (including women, racial minorities, LGBT) will find mentors and plenty of opportunities to advance quickly as the company continues to go through major changes.

    Cons

The company is still shedding full-time employees and is still one of the main targets of regulators. Cronyism and internal politics are factors, as in most large companies.

    Advice to Management

Overhaul the HR department to do a better job of hiring/promoting from within rather than firing and re-hiring. Tap-into and document existing knowledge and invest in employees (teach best practices) rather than relying on short-term contractors.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Bank of America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I really learned a lot about banking compliance while working at BofA. I enjoyed the interactions I had with my fellow associates while working on several projects. The Bonus and recognition structure is very good.

    Cons

There were times when I felt that the project teams were not getting enough support from Sr Management.

    Advice to Management

I would not focus on status reports as much as getting real feedback on issues from the project teams.

I worked at Bank of America as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The IT team is a professional and talented group of people. Very impressed with how this group works very hard to make as many deliverables as possible.

    Cons

If you require rules and structure, you will not find this a comfortable fit. You need to be able to tolerate "fuzzyness".

    Advice to Management

It might be nice to get a handle on project finances so that contract terminations are not so unexpected.
