    Pros

Bank of America is a large and stable company for which to work which is especially important in these turbulent times. It has an excellent work/life balance which allows you to not only work when you want, but where you want. In being such a large company, there are virtually no limits to career choices and paths. If you can't find what you want to do here, it is probably illegal! Finally, it is a company you can be proud working at. We are leaders in socially and environmentally-friendly initiatives from our Leed Platinum building in New York City to our credit cards where the rewards points are put towards carbon credits.

    Cons

It is a large company; as a result it is possible to feel "overwhelmed" or "lost" when you start working here. It takes a little bit longer than at a smaller company to feel that you know your way around.

    Advice to Management

Take advantage of this downturn/recession in the economy to fix many of the issues we have in house. We have focused for the past 10+ years on growing through acquisitions. This has served us well by turning us into one of the most formidable banks in the world. However, we need to properly integrate these new entities, streamline our processes and standardize our systems. By taking a moment to regroup, we'll be able to move forward aggressively in the future.

    Pros

Opportunity for career growth, professional and friendly environment; ability to learn about business and finance from thousands of different aspects. Ability to travel the world and work practically anywhere.

    Cons

I can think of no downside unless one is just strongly opposed to working in a large corporate environment.

    Advice to Management

Great job keeping everyone informed about what is going on.

BAC is an organization that tries to deliver results for Associates (employess), Customers and Shareholders. The focus on Associates is not accidental or fluffy. It does not promote the interests of it's Associates over the interests of the others, but it does provide an opportunity for people to work as hard as they want and be rewarded fairly.

    Cons

Like any large organization, BAC has a fair bit of politics and results are balanced against how they are achieved. HR is a very important part of the bank and drives many decisions about promotions and organizational alignments. Even though work life balance is valued, it can and will impact your ability to advance.

    Advice to Management

Must hold Risk and HR accountable for their results over the last 18 months.

    Pros

Due to the diverse lines of business, challenging opportunities are really only limited by your own personal preferences. The people are wonderful and there is truly a sense of teamwork and achieving success through cooperative efforts. There is enough change to feel the the organization is evolving in a positive direction without feeling chaotic.

    Cons

The hours can be long sometimes. In addition, due to the geographical dispersion of resources, it can be challenging to capitalize on the social aspects of the workplace. Celebrating successes is done in a variety of ways, but sometimes just getting together is a nice touch and helps build stronger relationships.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the innovative approach to managing the company. Look for opportunities to streamline processes that have become cumbersome.

    Pros

Work/life balance and flexible working arrangements are permitted and encouraged by many departments. Most years when the banking industry is doing well, we are allowed and expected to attend seminars and training to increase our personal development. Generous tuition reimbursement is provided for college courses, and they don't have to be career-related. Associates are often looking ahead for career advancement opportunities within the bank and discussing how to achieve them with their current manager.

    Cons

Change, change, change! Reorganizations happen often and people change positions regularly so you can't ever feel very comfortable or stable with the current state-of-affairs. Additionally, because it's such a large organization, it's hard to learn about all of the lines of businesses, especially if you're new to banking.

    Advice to Management

Continue to support associates with career advancement & professional development. The flexible work arrangements and focus on work/life balance is greatly appreciated.

Bank of America pays well for hard work and has great benefits, especially for those with families. There is a huge pool of candidates applying for jobs so only the most talented people get chosen for a position, which means you're often working with very smart people who are good at their jobs. There are always challenging tasks which allow every employee the opportunity to show what they're capable of.

    Cons

It can be very stressful at times to work at a company with such a high profile. Everything you do in your work is scrutinized and there is always someone available to step in and take your job if you can't perform well.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget what it's like to be part of the rank and file. Run the business with integrity.

    Pros

Opportunities to work in different lines of business. Core company values are not just written down, they are practiced by successful leaders and associates. During this past year, Bank of America has been the place to work in financial services during this market and economic storm. I would not want to work anywhere else in Financial Services. Strong and decisive management is also another reason to work for Bank of America.

    Cons

Decision making process can sometimes be slowed down by need to be inclusive in the process. The sheer size of the company can sometimes make it difficult to find the right person to help you.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be bold and focused on core strenghths of the franchise.

    Pros

Biggest player in the industry. Which at times makes it a great place to work, for you have resources available to you that few others have, but at the same time the bureacracy can be stifling. The bank is so huge you can do almost anything that you can put your mind to, if you get senior management to buy in to it.

    Cons

Too big sometimes, get bogged down with minutae. Meetings, forms, protocols, etc, can get to you after a while.

    Advice to Management

To listen to those in the trenches more for direction and advice. Sometimes the generals stay up on the hill with binoculars and just give orders to the troops, without ever taking the temperature of the troops to get some other types of input.

    Pros

Great opportunity to learn a lot of different skills in a short amount of time. Ability to move from one position to another when the economy turns around. If you are new to the job industry it is a great first job. I love getting the look and feel of a large corporate company. A lot of good people work at Bank of America and if you are lucky enough to work with one it will make your entire experience worth it. Technologically advanced enough with great flexible remote work options. I am pleased with the opportunities awaiting me in the future. If you love to work this is the place for you.

    Cons

Sometimes the structure and hierarchy within Bank of America prevents a lot of good work from being done. People tend to store knowledge in their heads to keep security. Working in technology is challenging at times due to budget constraints but if you get into a good group you can usually bypass that to let your creative juices flow. Turnover was a hard thing for me to get used to. Making such great working relationships and then having people leave the Bank was tough to deal with at first. Paying to park uptown for management exposure is annoying, but a small negative.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest that senior management propose a much more transparent communication style when it comes to tough economic situations. I think that in such uncertain times, a more constant managemente presence is important to keep workers motivated. Issue escalation and emergency deliverables are not always easy to get done. Whatever is able to be done to prevent fire drills from happening is appreciated. Also, the favor should be returned one day if the need were to arise.

Bank of America is a very diversied company and an awesome place to work. Bank of America takes pride in the 'Bank of America Spirit' and it truely shows - no matter what site you might visit. Fair lending and Doing the right things makes the company above and beyond the other banking institutions out ther. Senior management is great, the people are friendly and have all been employed for quite some time. Not much turnover.

    Cons

In today's market there are plenty of downsides with any financial institution? Same as any bank. Continuing to layoff, but not near like it was a year ago.
