I have been working at Bank of America

    Pros

Incredible diversity, your career opportunities are just as dependent on performance as they are background or education, nation-wide opportunities for advancement, the ability to work in several different and diverse departments, working for the very best in the industry. Here at Bank of America you always feel like you are ahead of the curve in our industry, that others are chasing us to find the best way to perform....

    Cons

Very large company and only the very best get recognized-- this often means that "close-to-top" performers get ignored or undervalued. Associates or teams that consistently make their goals year after year are not valued as highly as the "flash in the pan" performer who happens to be hot at the moment. This can be discouraging, and does not differentiate between 2nd place and last place. The standards are very high, and...

    Advice to Management

Find ways to recognize assocites beyond the incentive plan. Most associates make incentive, so while it is important, it is not a driving force for staying with the company. Senior managers (Band 4 and above) need developing and encouraging, the same as everyone.

I worked at Bank of America full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Benefits - so long as you don’t make too much (cost goes up with salary increases)

    Cons

No balance - work, work, work, work, work. No thought to employee relations Constant changes to strategy - nothing would last longer than a month Constant reduction in employees Focused on replacing humans with computers No training or development of employees Bank Security constantly telling employees they are fired for “loss of trust and confidence”

    Advice to Management

Focus on your employees as your greatest asset, not as dispensable assets. Increase training and development.

I have been working at Bank of America full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

    - Plenty of opportunities under one roof thanks to multiple lines of business. - Great benefits including 16 weeks paid paternity leave - Leadership development training

    Cons

    - Upward career mobility has stalled with flattening of the organization. - Lost a bit of its meritocracy culture -- it is more and more about who you know to be promoted. - Diversity and inclusion is more talk than action. Bank can't get its act together in creating a truly inclusive environment specifically at senior leadership positions level.

    Advice to Management

    - Empowers your front line employees and manager. - Remove red tape and give more autonomy to unit manager to run their unit.

I worked at Bank of America

    Pros

    * Excellent benefits * Hardworking teammates who want to serve customers well * Unique benefits to help working parents

    Cons

    * Several reorganizations in my years with the company - This created consistent change of priorities that was difficult to achieve * Work/Life balance is not easily obtained * Leaders are constantly stressed about performance

    Advice to Management

    * Consumer Banking Leadership is currently not effective. They are not inspiring their people and instead are creating a culture of fear.

I worked at Bank of America full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Run your own team (for the most part, stay close to the customer)

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations. Role has changed over the years as many have. BofA has seriously unrealistic expectations about what ONE person, regardless of abilty, is able to accomplish in 14 working hours of a day.

    Advice to Management

Truly analyze what a day in the life looks like. NOT what they think, but what really happens. Minimize metric management.

    Pros

The workload will keep you busy

    Cons

Constant downsizing is hurting capacity and morale while every layer of management just comes up with more reports and processes to be managed on

    Advice to Management

Simplifying the business; more reports and processes does not translate into productivity

    Pros

Opportunity to advance quickly in Consumer Bank because of demanding jobs and turnover.

    Cons

Senior management will work you to rags and then dispose of you.

    Advice to Management

Many give their heart and soul and 85 hours and are never thanked appropriately compensated. Not good.
