I have been working at Bank of America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is a well regarded financial institution globally. Decent benefits for family Occasionally there are some interesting employee events

    Cons

Mundane work - very operational entry-level work even for mid/senior management. The work is more about maintaining/overseeing processes rather than doing anything thought provoking. This also contributes to the rigid structure offering little career growth. Demanding yet uninspiring leaders. "My way or the high way" approach from leaders. They also tend to not be transparent with their teams. Some are known to... be rude yet no one (HR) does anything about it. I'm talking about a lot of the executive committee members. Glassdoor reviews for Hong Kong particularly are bad - no one in HR seems to show concern... Back-stabbing / throwing under the bus is common across several departments. It's more important to point the finger at someone rather than find a solution together. It's all about showing yourself in the best light and putting your name on things - and that is why there is little collaboration/team effort. Face-to-face interaction not valued. For example, rather than having an IT person come to you in person to fix simple issues, they give you a roundabout method involving several people, live chat, and take multiple days, While remotely working is useful in some instances someone you just need a human to talk to - this probably contributes to the back office staff seeming vapid and lacking in personability. Finding information and the 'right person' for an enquiry is difficult - convoluted structures. A lot of staff in my experience do not have a sense of ownership of their work. they are just executing because their boss 'said so'. this is a bad work ethic that common here. This firm is not catching up with the times when it comes to modern workplaces and appealing to millennials - who are the majority of workers right now. Ageing workforce with old school methods. Salary and bonus is not particularly generous considering the company is showing record earnings. This is one of the worst company cultures I've seen (can only speak for Hong Kong) despite global heads always talking about valuing people it's a shame Hong Kong is not doing this. There are a lot of miserable people in the office from what I can see...most people seem to only be staying for benefits and working for the brand name - it's not enough and is creating a toxic work life for most. I've been here just about 1.5 years and can't wait to leave when the right opportunity comes along.

    Advice to Management

Don't undermine your staff and encourage more team spirit rather than highlight individual success. Focus on the big picture to inspire staff. Also improve transparency.

    Pros

Access to meet and interact with clients from the get go

    Cons

The backstabbing is at a different level. Managers out to throw anyone under the bus, especially in GCM You have to be Koder’s guy to survive. He has a load of big fat dead weights who do nothing but carry his s&ck for him. No wonder this bank is going nowhere

    Advice to Management

Koder you demand so much of your guys! Why don’t you look in the mirror and ask yourself, do you need those deadweight mo&ons (UBS gang)
