I worked at Bank of America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy-going, laid-back, friendly environment; pay commensurate with experience; good treatment; strong HR support for employees; good benefits.

    Cons

Not much room for growth beyond a certain point; very hierarchical environment - you better know your place. Conservative and be ready for your 'representative' to show up to work, instead of your true self. Political environment.

    Advice to Management

Recognize people 'low on the totem pole' more, rather than patronizing them and having some weak employee appreciation month. Allow support employees to share in the company spoils a bit, instead of having them be the first to lose their bonuses when you don't perform as well as last year.

  2. "Tiresome- Core values need to be out at the top of the list. Sales will follow."

I worked at Bank of America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The hours of operation are pretty decent.

    Cons

Pay is lower than smaller financial institutions. One of the largest companies in the world but continue to drive employees to the ground. Turnover rate with employees is astonishing. Essentially working as a training center for new hires to acquire skills to transition to another financial institution.

    Advice to Management

    Care for employees.

    Pros

Global Outreach, Many different divisions within the bank to advance into, fair compensation packages only if you know how to negotiate (especially as an internal promotion).

    Cons

You have to know and be liked by the hiring managers to get a promotion, qualifications alone don't cut it. You have to be very aggressive and let it be known that you are interested in moving up in the company or else people will think you are content where you are right now.

    Advice to Management

People get too comfortable in their current positions and never want to leave it; you have to ensure they are motivated to work harder to move up.

    Pros

It is a good starting out job. Not something that you want to stay in for too long if you want a good salary.

    Cons

They are typically understaffed due to the large employee turnover. It makes for a stressful workday.

    Advice to Management

Be more flexible with your employees and keep yourself staffed!

    Pros

Well known company name/ brand recognition, wide geographical presence allows to relocate without looking for a new company, good technology/ IT platforms, many different lines of business to work for, and a reasonable medical and dental coverage...

    Cons

The company is too big, and an employee is just a number that can be replaced for less expensive one; very conservative compensation ( salary base is on the low side compare to the industry competition, and ever-changing, cumbersome incentive plan ) - definitely not a place to make decent money!!! Not a very good place to balance work and life - in order to get results and a good performance review one needs to put aside their family, kids, loved ones and other interests...

    Advice to Management

Try to retain your experienced, loyal, skilled associates and compensate them well instead of messing with salary increases and changing insentive plans every business quarter...Bring back stock option plan for everybody! Show that you are truly care about your people not just by talking and making promises but, actually, taking action and make Bank of America a one of the best places to work!
