I worked at Bank of America as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

good people to work with. Most worker bees are contractors.

    Cons

I had several contracts while at the bank. Management just wants to automate jobs so they can eliminate people and say they saved money. Hiring and firing is random and there is no logic to who gets hired or fired. Good people get fired and poor people stay. Mgmt does not care about contractors even though contractors do the bulk of the work. They want people with the most up to date skills and then when you get there, you do mundane things with their internal systems and tools. Then, you lose all your current skills because they don't pay to train you. So, if you can work 18 months at a time, chances are you will get re-hired after your 3-month lay-off. Better to get a full-time job and make a little less somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

Value your contractors and if they are good, hire them and weed out the dead wood employees just taking up a seat.
