Current Employee - Vice President, Operations Manager in New York, NY

I have been working at Bank of America full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Great benefits. Significant internal opportunity for internal mobility. Good access to learning and development.

    Cons

Culture varies depending on city and line of business. I worked in Human Resources in New York and the environment was very competitive and hierarchical. Disconnect between senior leadership and middle management/individual contributors. Culture discouraging disrupting status quo, does not value innovation or creativity unless in line with existing strategic initiatives.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your more junior talent and seek their input and expertise when making strategic decisions. Provide more leadership training. Encourage executives and managers to speak up with concerns, listen, and value those who disrupt the status quo for the sake of improvement.

I have been working at Bank of America full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

    - Benefits - Work from home (although this is decreasing) - Associate development (with a caveat...only if you actively pursue, lots of events and courses on learning portal and if you have buy-in from your manager)

    Cons

Micromanagement exists and some manager will put a target on low performers.

    Advice to Management

As seen in a few other reviews, people don't leave jobs, they leave bad management. Take a look at managers who have multiple people leave their team and really deep dive into their survey results. At first I thought I was being overly sensitive working for this most recent manager; however, after hitting my tipping point of "enough" and talking with people who have left the team, I realized it's not me...it's the manager....

I have been working at Bank of America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good work life balance, great networks for employees - military, women, Hispanics etc. Company is heavily involved in giving back to the community

    Cons

Very little transparency to compensation and organizational changes; org changes happen often; lack of continuity in leadership makes it difficult for focused, value add work to be done

    Advice to Management

Provide transparency and clear path for your employees. Continue to cut costs - too much fat in certain areas. Focus on hiring for actual need and not to appease a MDs thirst for empire building
