I worked at Bank of New Zealand full-time

    Pros

The bank offers a few training and development opportunities and offers some variety and a sense of purpose in the work through community engagement programs.

    Cons

Their is very little personal engagement with the employees. Instead a company culture is forced upon them in the hopes of opiating the lower tier employees to the menial nature of their job. There is little attention paid to employee talent, skills or preferences.

    Advice to Management

engage with the employees more, actually practice the principles of the culture

I worked at Bank of New Zealand full-time

      Pros

Great entry level salary Flattening hierarchy Great colleagues

      Cons

Not much of a jump in salary from customer service consultant to banking advisor although a lot more responsibility Sometimes feels like management will ask for front line staff opinion then ignore it

I worked at Bank of New Zealand full-time for more than a year

      Pros

      Working for a private sector

      Cons

Working here felt like i was back in the 50s on a punch in punch out type environment. You have to be available take the last call up to the last second, this can be up to a 30 min call and you miss your train home and family time. But there is never any give back, if your late thanks to the trains, you should have found another way in and you have to make up the time, even though you worked late 4 times that week,...

      Advice to Management

Just because the staff are call centre doesn't mean they don't have feelings. Would suggest that higher management have a good chat to the front line staff and see how they are feeling, staff engagement is low and it's all about numbers and bums in seat.... don't you dare go to the loo... it will stuff up the stats..

I have been working at Bank of New Zealand full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Great culture Very involved with the community Great staff benefits

      Cons

Dependent on roles. A lot of unpaid overtime is needed. Not much support from seniors. Not much work life balance.

      Advice to Management

Should focus on employee wellbeing and career developments. Some managers help and encourage employees for their future careers. While some wouldn’t help and even suggest you not to apply for jobs.

I worked at Bank of New Zealand full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Good starting rate which goes up as you progress.

      Cons

Strong culture of favouritism in the call centre where connections will get you those small but noticeable opportunities beyond your role. Little support for customers that are abusive over the phone and endless queues from start to finish. Unhealthy obsession with the structure of your call conversations (your remuneration goes up if you say what they want you to say on every call).

      Advice to Management

Have a good clean out of call centre management. Out of touch and uncaring.
