I worked at Bankrate (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The Palm Beach Gardens FL office is definitely a pro with standing desks and a clean environment. There are plenty of in-office happy hours with alcohol and food provided.

    Cons

Departments are led by managers who don't have the training and skills to get the job done. Promotions are only given to a certain few and if you aren't one of those few, you can work for years without a promotion or raise. If you are young and looking for a mentor, forget about it and look for a job elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers who are trained and skilled to lead departments.

I have been working at Bankrate full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people and provided coffee/breakfast. I am really not sure there is anything else positive that could be said that wouldn't be a flat lie.

    Cons

Executive management of the Insurance branch is too junior to make the proper decisions and place priorities where they need to be placed.

    Advice to Management

Stop behaving as though you belong to a contemptuous clique, communicate to your employees, and focus on long term objectives rather than short term gains.

    Pros

Located in lower downtown of Denver
    Benefits are decent

    Cons

Culture has a negative tone. Ever since the merge of InsureMe and NetQuote, the culture is not set and there is a feel of 2 companies working under the same roof. Due to this, employee morale is low.

There is also a feel of a control battle. Senior management is composed of both NetQuote and InsureMe employees, so there is this constant tension in the air.

High turnover in various departments due to the above.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep your quality employee's happy.
Leadership and Vision is needed in senior management.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    Company has name recognition
    Company is profitable

    Cons

Poor senior management -- they have succeeded more because of luck and inheriting a business that unintentionally had very strong SEO than business skill or decent management skills
Promotions -- titles and salary -- are given based on whether it's someone they want to hang out with and not on performance
    Dumpy no personality offices
    Stingy on equity

    Advice to Management

Look harder at those who work hard and have the ability to move up
Look beyond presentations and spreadsheets to see if people really understand the business

"Bottlenecks need to be fixed to make Bankrate a top company to work for."

    Pros

Benefits like health care, matching 401k, other employees, location.

    Cons

If you are looking for a project to move along, it wont. There are way to many things that slow the process down in QA and IT. I came from a small company to Bankrate and got much more done in a smaller amount of time. Too many bottlenecks at Bankrate and because of this you will see many of the employees using work time for play time. Play Farmville lately? I like to be busy at work and this job was tough because I had to wait for approvals that never were in site.

    Advice to Management

Find and fix your bottlenecks so projects can move along and you will see and increase in productivity.

Also the Accounting dept. needs to set-up a process to work with all the acquired companies instead of working against them. Standard forms, a phone call to explain your processes. I dont care how busy you may be in this dept. these types of things will save you time in the long run.
