I worked at Banner Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People are great to work with, very patient centered.

    Cons

They seem to have "budget problems" every 3-4 years and lay-off anyone who is earning a lot in order to save money.

    Advice to Management

Lay-off the people making a budget that doesn't last for 5 years

I have been working at Banner Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Tons of work and the ability to learn and grow as a new grad.

    Cons

I feel like they really do not care about the staff. Company takes precedent. They would rather hire someone from outside, rather than from within, ex transfer to a different position.

I worked at Banner Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Mission statement for patient care

    Cons

Focus is too much on growth in one state (Arizona) versus the entire network. This has lead to numerous job losses in other states.

    Advice to Management

Trust your managers in place. Too much micro-managing. Senior leaders don't entrust their managers to handle problems. Working with a very lean management team

    Pros

Awesome Team work I love the team I work with.

    Cons

Work every other weekend. no promotions raises are a slap in the face maybe 10-15 cents a year, hire outsiders for lead positions who know nothing, instead of giving current employees with more experience this opportunity. New upper management, leads are not willing to support team and line when needed. To much added prep put on Associates.

    Advice to Management

Give us current employees a chance to lead our team and the opportunity to gain the lead and upper management positions. .

I worked at Banner Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Banner is a leader in the healthcare field.
-I had the best manager I've ever had while a IT Systems Engineer at Banner
-Their size allows for interesting and exciting projects to be taken on.

    Cons

-I found it difficult to be creative and innovative at Banner (in an IT role), mostly due to policy and regulation (internal and external). I know healthcare is heavily regulated in general, but it just became too much.
-Their size allows for a lot of bureaucracy and slow movement, even though they still want things done fast.

    Advice to Management

You might consider changing your tune of "You have to have a high tolerance for ambiguity and a love of complex things to make it in healthcare" to something more along the lines of "We know healthcare is ambiguous and complex, but we will do everything we can to make it as simple and clear as possible for our employees." The current way of thinking makes it seem like you're embracing complexity and ambiguity, which I never liked.

I have been working at Banner Health (More than a year)

    Pros

Many friendly people depending where you work and quite a few employees that have worked for Banner for years. Working prn is nice for life balance and staffing department employees are helpful. Good orientation and most employees willing to work together and help each other if needed. Computer systems are user friendly. Good communication by most and generally a very good work culture. Clean, well maintained facilities and you have the supplies you need to do your job.

    Cons

There arent always prn shifts to fill. Friendly to your face personality types stick out and unfortunately most of them have a position where they are in charge or have authority over others. There's a lot of competition for a few job openings so you better like staying where you are. If you do get a regular job, its likely a lateral move, except for the hours. Degrees and certifications are everything so forget about your experience- just keep your pocketbook out and forget about any life you thought you had outside of school.
