I have been working at Baptist Health South Florida part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great place to meet people and network.

    Cons

Low pay. Cutting hours. Techs (Lab, xray, and CST) have to work more days in order to make a living. We basically work 7 days to go home with FT pay.

    Advice to Management

Do better. We believe you can. Start caring about the employees.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

It's disheartening to have to come to this point in your career working for an organization that lures talent with relentless boast of being the "best" place for growth, recognition, compassion, business, etc... Like many prospective candidates, I made herculean efforts to make it through the rigorous hiring process to land an entry level position as a coder. While, I will admit that BHSF offers competitive... benefits for health, dental, perks and PTO, it is quickly overshadowed by the dark reality of working for a management group that is clearly adversarial toward the coders. During conference calls, upper management have been heard mockingly laughing and making faces (witnessed) at coders when asking questions about impromptu policy changes that affect our performance, which by the way, never make it on a sheet of paper in a simple memo format. They are notorious for creating "policies" without letting the coding team know so that later on they can enforce corrective action, rendering the coder unqualified to receive his/her quarterly bonus. Also, they abolished the third party chart audit and substituted it with their own "assessment test" administered by, you guessed it, management, with the unrealistic passing score of 100% with no feed back, leaving little room to learn and develop. Anything less will constitute a fail, resulting in bonus disqualification. This type of treatment is unmerited since all of us go to great lengths to ensure the AR, just like our pay, is below standard. A pat on the back is unheard of here. instead, the managers decided to increase productivity from one day to another by more than 30% to do away with agency coders and inherently burn us out. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a real condition but it doesn't seem to concern them. There is a disproportionate gap in pay between BHSF coders and agency coders by a few dollars for doing the same exact job with the difference being BHSF coders are burdened with the AR load and are regularly being accosted by the managers about time spent on charts, overtime and turnaround time. This is troubling because their job is to ensure we are properly staffed but instead they assign blame on the coders for discrepancies they should have anticipated. Management is the direct reason many coders have left, including a supervisor, to find better career opportunities with better pay and treatment. It is no surprise that the HIM coding department has been absorbed by a new partnering agency but unless this encrusted management team is carved out of there in toto, hardworking coders will continue to sail away for better horizons.

I have been working at Baptist Health South Florida full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I suppose the tuition reimbursement program is okay but once you are given the help you are required to stay working for baptist for 24 months, otherwise you will have to pay it back. Benefits are good too.

    Cons

LOW PAY GRADE in comparison to other health care competitors. ALWAYS short staffed. POOR yearly merit increases.

    Advice to Management

Hire more staff!!!!!!!!!!!! Pay more for the type of expectations you require from staff. It's all a give-take.
