I worked at Baptist Health South Florida full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Overall culture , location, benefits, childcare and the aesthetics of the building are very nice .

    Cons

As a social worker for baptist hospital of miami the demands are unrealistically high. The workload has always been challenging due to the fact we deal with people at the lowest point in their lives, however, lately its sky rocketed with the decrease in staff. The social workers with the most experience are slowly dwindling because of the lack of basic work life balance. Leadership is only interested in hiring... social workers right out of school for the lowest salaries possible. As the number of social workers decrease the number of supervisors increase..... it makes you wonder .... who are the supervising? Social workers are expected to work unrealistic hours and have a very difficult time taking time off. Leadership is in a cloud of their own as they never cover floors and have no clue what their staff is actually doing on a daily basis. Furthermore they are not in touch with the low morale of their staff.. Health care as a whole is changing and the CEOs are more interested in the bottom line and “budget” rather than the actual quality of care given to their patients.

    Advice to Management

you are an employee just like the rest of your staff. Treat your employees the way you would like to be treated, with dignity respect and compassion . Walk in the shoes of your staff rather sit in the confines of your safe offices. Leadership positivity and cohesiveness start at the top. If you do not at like you care about your job and your staff why should your employees

I have been working at Baptist Health South Florida full-time

    Pros

The pay and benefits are decent.

    Cons

Workload of excessive. Management expects too much with minimal to no real training on rapidly changing environment. When someone quits no one is hired to replace them. Their job responsibilities are spread out over the existing employee . Work life balance is no existent. Technology is very outdated. Equipment is old and in need of replacement. It is nearly impossible to move up in the organization unless you know... someone.

I have been working at Baptist Health South Florida full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The benefits and flexibility are great. Great work life balance. Bonus and matching 401k. The employee discounts and available resources are great.

    Cons

The ability is grow is overlooked because of favoritism rather than what the employee knows. Employees were blatantly groomed for positions and others not given the opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Less micro managing and more focus on leading rather than having your own autonomy.

I have been working at Baptist Health South Florida full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great benefits, brand name, great clinical staff, great co-workers, job security, prestigious institute, great work-life balance (I'm sure it depends on the dept you work for), they care about employees time off, they most definitely care about their patients. Some of my previous leaders have REALLY cared about their employees and really listen to their needs. Has grown so much as an organization

    Cons

Some of leadership is terrible! To the point that you wonder how they are still a leader. Senior leadership executives such as directors and VPs should really take a look at the individuals they have in they're management and supervisor team. Many of them do not embody what Baptist portrays themselves to be. Barely any growth for non-clinical staff, you have individuals who have bachelors and masters degree... working in an entry level position such as Patient Representative that could do a better job at being a leader than the current manager. I have been in Baptist for over 8 years, I have learned and grown and I am thankful for it; however, have seen it time and time again that to get promoted in Baptist it is 100% about who you know and are friends with rather than your knowledge and how capable you are to fulfill the position. Also, you don't get a promotion like a lot of companies where if you have earned the promotion you just get promoted, you have to apply for a position and then interview for it, all the while there are other people interviewing for the same position. All about politics! They will interview you even if they know FOR SURE they are giving the position to someone else. I have seen it myself when I've been part of panels for a candidate when another has already been chosen or in mind. Don't waste peoples time!!! Pay is definitely not as good as other healthcare systems but they do have great healthcare benefits along with some other incentives. Not sure about other healthcare organizations. And truly not everything should be about money. Hiring and transferring process is ridiculous! I think it's easier to get into the CIA or the white house. HR needs to get it together and make the process more seamless and communicate better with transferring employees. We should get priority over outside candidates. Do not post position that are already going to be filled by someone else that the manager for the department has selected. If you want to be a leader you cannot speak up to what you think and know is right for the team. You have to agree with leaderships vision even if you know it is wrong. Baptist outpatient services is not what it once was and is losing a lot of their good employees.

    Advice to Management

Better leaders in management team. Human resource needs to be more involved with employees and really be there for them. Instead it seems like they are on managements team instead of being there for the employees as it should be.
