I worked at Baptist Memorial Health Care part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great RN staff--very knowledgeable and caring. Fair salary and good shift differentials. Lots of opportunities to make time-and-a-half even for non full-time staff. EPIC charting

    Cons

Heavy patient assignments. High RN turnover. Management. Very slow computers--they spent millions buying EPIC but never upgraded the computers or servers!

I worked at Baptist Memorial Health Care full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are slightly above average and they do pay on time. There is plenty of work to do but you will not get any support from management unless you play the political game.

    Cons

Politics dominates this organization..... period. Trust me I'm not bitter or angry in the least. Job promotions
and management selections are based by politics only not based on the works of the individual. It's a good place to get started after college then leave his place for better opportunities. Contract employees now dominate the majority of the labor pool at Baptist.

    Advice to Management

Look at the top 10 non for profit health care organizations in the US. Imitate what they are doing. You are a Christian organization in name only. This organization talks the talk but no longer walks the walk.

I have been working at Baptist Memorial Health Care full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Employee recognition for service, friendly staff and administration. Clean facility.

    Cons

Constant focus on length of stay in the emergency room: managers out of touch with what goes on in the ER vs their plans to maximize HHCAPS

    Advice to Management

Try spending time working or side by side with your employees before implementing these ridicukous standards and goals

I have been working at Baptist Memorial Health Care full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The employees that you work with on the unit are like a close-knit family. If you are an individual who is eager to help others, you will find assistance whenever you need it.

    Cons

The Entity, as a whole, makes decisions and changes that are not always in the best interest of the employees and/or patients. This is most likely due to government instated reimbursement rating systems such as HCAPS

    Advice to Management

Please worry about the employees and patients rather than scores/numbers.

Great place to work. Cooperative and helpful staff as well as supportive management

    Cons

Support staff such as patient care techs, are not compensated adequately for their valuable contribution

    Advice to Management

Revisit compensation for patient care techs so quality staff will be drawn to that valuable job and allow us, the RNs do our job monitoring and caring for patients

    Pros

    Actions reflected their faith
    Good management

    Cons

    Higher than normal workload

    Advice to Management

Find front line staff members, ask their input on workload, ask if it makes them want to work elsewhere, and then value that input in future decisions.

401k, pay is fair, people are friendly.

    Pros

Great coworkers that also have great work ethic. This hospital is a great place to gain experience, we see it all!

    Cons

Heavy workload. We are understaffed and therefore have to make up for it a lot by staying late and shifting hours.
