I have been working at Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

We get a great benefits package, 20 days off a year and excellent medical.

    Cons

Although we get a lot of vacation days we don't get paid very much making using those days for a real vacation very difficult.

I have been working at Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

So this was my first hospital job, and I really enjoyed it. Still do, they do recognize workers for the hard work. The pay was the best I had received as a tech and the skills I learned are invaluable. The closeness that the coworkers have is wonderful.

    Cons

    -Favoritism to certain employees
-Management does not really take concerns seriously
-Managers say we should not gossip, and yet they are the first to talk
-Managers expect us to give names, as though we are snitching even if we ask for our names not to be involved they still will drag in.
-Managers also can be very rude and condescending
-The insurance from McLaren that we now have is terrible
-They don't mach our retirement like they used to.
    -Little to no raise
-Constantly remind you that you are replaceable
-If you do leave you are treated like dirt, one particular manager is extremely cold and rude. Most the former employees have said how rude this manager acts and will not even speak to them after the two week notice is given.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees fairly, don't act high and mighty. The CEO does nothing from what I see, step up.

I have been working at Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute full-time

    Pros

The pros about working here is that you can learn lot if you want to. You feel good about the work that you are doing and see the comfort you bring to people who are scared and aren't really sure of what's going to happen next.

    Cons

Compensation is not where iIt should be for the quality and quantity of work that you provide the Organization and the patients.

You really can't advance without a degree. Sometimes the best workers are the ones without a degree.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to employee's that show initiative and passion. Just because they don't have a 4 year degree doesn't mean they don't deserve promotions and higher pay.

    Cons

Institute was acquired by another organization a few years ago and non-clinical jobs don't feel secure.
