    Pros

I worked in the Head Office in Canary Wharf
    Good name
Large organisation meaning if you're fortunate enough you can scour for and find fresh internal opportunities
Lots going on -different networks and communities

    Cons

Values and morals not embedded - it really is dog eat dog. It's not clear what the organisation stands for
No leaders, lots of managers - very hard to find sponsors/support
Poor progression - you can easily stay at the same level and pay grade for years and years and I met many who time and time again were denied promotions and pay rises despite being excellent
Multiple layers of management doing the same or very similar things -very hierarchical
Lack of meritocracy - it's not clear what promotion criteria is
Very traditional - poor evidence of racial and gender diversity in top leadership positions

    Advice to Management

Develop some sort of culture and values that you actually stand by
Reduce heavy Director level - too many directors all fighting for the limelight and doing the same projects. I never knew it was possible to have so many different types and levels of Directors in one organisation
    Simplify people structures
Review performance criteria - embed meritocracy

I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to work on high profile fast paced projects
Good office facilities and flexible working approach
    Opportunity to work internationally

    Cons

Aggressive blame culture where the loudest voice gets heard. Focus continually on getting things done with little consideration for the right way to do them

    Advice to Management

Upgrade technology so tha staff have something to work with
Listen to all voices not just the aggressive ones
Support your staff; have their backs, let them feel like they won't be blamed for trying things differently or for trying to make things work

I worked at Barclays full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Significant independence but poor top leadership and poor strategy execution

    Cons

Poor top leadership and poor strategy execution; no care and consideration for employees.

    Advice to Management

Get top quality managements from any of the US banks - GS, JPM and replace yourselves.

I have been working at Barclays (More than a year)

    Pros

Some great individuals working there still
    Benefits outside of salary

    Cons

Bullying tactics still rife in senior managers
    No support
Breaches in staff privacy and data protection
    Customer abuse
Expect to work over 45hrs per week and 6 day weeks
Mostly poor management with very limited leadership skills
Expect to be hit on by your boss with the promise of promotions if your willing

    Advice to Management

Stop paying staff off with redundancy and allowing them back at the same grade/salary 6 months later (cost waste).
Stop making staff accountable for the legacy issues the bank has.
Create a decent and rewarding incentive package or a higher basic

    Pros

Salary and that's it. Cannot think of anything positive apart from a few staff the management team really poor especially in HR

    Cons

Do not take problems seriously, they are a Bear Sterns in the waiting. Too many whistle blowers that are sacked and not taken seriously. Management covering up constantly. Especially in OT&F, breaking the laws is standard operating practise for Resourcing, HR and Procurment

    Advice to Management

Listen to whistle blowers, remember the parliamentary select committee findings and your commitment to shareholders and regulators in UK and North America

I worked at Barclays (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Please see the cons below - unless the firm undergoes a material overhaul, I can think of few pros - at best I can say that there is an acceptable canteen. There are good shops in the Wharf, which might make the location appealing?

    Cons

I worked at Barclays for many years and have watched the company deteriorate into a monolith of incompetent bureaucrats. The firm's so-called values are not there when it really counts. It is characterised by micro-management, inefficiency, and a top-heavy management structure who are not close to the details on the ground. All the best performers have been steadily leaving over the past few years; the ones who remain are either too expensive to move or simply cannot cut it elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Cut half the top management level. Cut the bureaucracy. Return you focus to the job at hand - banking.

I worked at Barclays full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Very open to pay for training / studing further if it is applicable to your role
    - good pension contributions

    Cons

    - VERY slow when it comes to change management
    - Too many 'boards / committees' that need to approve project
    - Very slow to making decisions
    - Restructure, restructure, restructure
    - Employees not confident that they will have a job in 6 months time as senior management are closing and moving departments time and time again
    - Worked for 2 and a half years at Barclays in South Africa. Was then invited for a final stage interview in London, flew at my own expense from Johannesburg to London and was then told that Barlclays have another "Recruitment Freeze". Wasted £2500 of my own money to fly for an interview they could recruit for.

    Advice to Management

Stop restructing. Get a strategy and stick to it!!!!!
