I worked at Barclays full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There exists a well set structure

    Cons

There is stagnation especially when one is best performer. Managers fail to recognize hardworking colleagues. It takes long to get the required experience in a section and as such growth takes long.

    Advice to Management

Though there are structures, recognize the best in a team and every member contribute to company growth

I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nothing really stands out as I have not had the most positive experience here. I guess they are somewhat supportive of flexible working.

    Cons

Barclays has a close relationship to the Armed Forces so like to recruit people from the army regardless of whether or not they can do the job.

More concerned with whether or not your face fits rather than getting the right person for the job.

    Advice to Management

If someone is doing a good job then reward them.

I worked at Barclays full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Initially it was a very collegial department and there was not much in the way of politics.

    Cons

They promoted people above their competence level, in particular one person was made an MD that would struggle to meet the requirements of a Director. With this came a lot of politics and the department became a terrible place to work. Throw in a number of scandals and the place is a revolving door of staff.

    Advice to Management

Hire the right people. Promote the right talent.

I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Higher Apprenticeship is a fantastic way to get your foot in the door and get given the opportunity to gain exposure across departments. My personal and technical development has increased massively since taking the role over a year ago.

    Cons

The bureaucracy dictates the level of your career development. Despite being offered roles to come off the apprenticeship and into Analyst roles, i am unable to do so due to blockers being put in place by people running the programme.

    Advice to Management

Allow people to develop at their own rate and support their career progression as well as personal and technical.

Strong new appointments at the top of management

    Cons

    Nakedly political environment
Everyone is the smartest guy in the room

    Advice to Management

Run the rule over the 2nd and 3rd tier of MDs and shake out the dead wood.
Drive the new culture from the top home and make it stick

    Pros

Work / life balance, you won't be working weekends, a few good people to work with.

    Cons

Stressful political games, very centrally controlled environment, very old technology. Very un-lean.

    Advice to Management

Sell the IB - you can't make any money from it. The good times are not coming back.

I worked at Barclays full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, smart and capable. Barclays had top notch systems including market data repositories, risk engines etc obviously designed by excellent professionals. Capable trading desks too.

    Cons

Since 2012 the firm went downhill rapidly fast. No training. Very long hours with brutal deadlines. Poor pay, ranked top in reviews yet zero bonus. Bad vibes in the firm, culture was terrible. Miserable offices, 10 South Colonnade dirty carpets, 3 toilets for 500 people in the floor only cleaned once a day. 5 North Colonnade pretty much the same. Mediocre benefits. Sparse internal mobility opportunities, only for the very well connected.

    Advice to Management

    None

    Sometimes they missed organization.
They should give presents to good employees

    Advice to Management

Listen more to your employees. And try to make work conditions much easier so the work will be much more better.
