    Negative Outlook

I worked at Barclays full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Structured, large, extracurricular activities galore, segregated duties well-segregated (in fact there are so many people it is too well-segregated, the result of which is unnecessary silos and herd mentalities pertaining to one's immediate team). More people than what is realistically needed.

    Cons

Hierarchical, doesn't reward employee loyalty or longevity, aggressive fear-led culture, overly focused on negative points during performance review (instead of a balanced 50/50 approach).

    Advice to Management

Focus on the long-term (and try to stick around for 3+ years).

I have been working at Barclays (More than a year)

    Pros

Talented people who are very committed
    Dynamic, fast paced work environment
    Internal mobility is good.
    Flexible working arrangements are common.

    Cons

    Relentless pace with no respite.
Flexible working is encouraged but difficult to take advantage of due to workloads.
Pay and bonuses are on the low side for the industry.
Great place to learn about banking and making yourself more efficient.

    Advice to Management

Not every piece of work has to be delivered tomorrow.

I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At Barclay the management was good. They had reasonable expectations, a good strategy and were good at prioritising work with the correct resourses

    Cons

In 2015 they shut the commodities department. Just before they announced this the new management team we're not clearly communicating they strategy and lots of people we're leaving do to bad feelings

    Advice to Management

Be consistent with technogly. Stop trying to reinvent the platform every 3years. Otherwise you get 2 or 3 bad solutions to the same problem, too many applications to support and an infrastructure that is impossible to retire
