    Pros

Ability to control your own work day, nice employees. Provide company credit card. Food on Level 3 of Headquarters was acceptable and cheap

    Cons

Terrible middle management, don't care about your development. Promotions are decided by team directors, not by meritocracy. Out of date systems. Ban on travel outside of London was beyond a joke.

    Advice to Management

Define roles and targets more specifically. Nobody cares about the new values, it's all a smokescreen for the markets. Get back to the days of Bob Diamond

    Cons

Upward growth within the company is almost impossible.

    Advice to Management

To be more flexible in their managerial methods to accommodate millennials, working mothers and basically individuals from different backgrounds.

I worked at Barclays full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Reimbursed cabs, private cars; free meals; salary + bonus

    Cons

Hours; everyone was miserable; encourages culture of "drones"; After redesigning outdated systems/mechanisms that are used to provide support to my entire team with huge time saving enhancements as well as learning how to be a better analyst with regard to products/industries/financial valuation methodologies outside my direct scope, I was told that was a waste of time and just to focus on my little niche. Company is very outdated and old school with lots of hazing techniques embedded in the various groups. All the investment banks probably have this to some degree, but at least the others know how to pay employees and keep them from going to hedge funds / private equity.

    Advice to Management

Embrace the investment banking culture or spin-off the bank. Don't try to keep it, but have the opposite culture. If you don't improve pay, brain drain will continue to goldman sachs or hedge funds / private equity.

I have been working at Barclays (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If your face fits then youcan go far.

    Cons

Constant change which in my experience isn't always that well thought out (one change seriously affects another to the detriment of either colleague wellbeing or customer experience).

    Advice to Management

Listen to frontline staff, dont brand colleagues who speak out about the pitfalls of the company as troube makers and reward them better... after all you do have over 1 trillion in assets.

    I worked at Barclays full-time

    Pros

Good work life balance. Generally nice people to work with and a good place to get exposure to life on the trading floor.

    Cons

Commonplace for analysts and AVPs to get zero bonuses. little scope for development through courses. The relative grading system for appraisals is unfair.

    Advice to Management

Abolish the relative ranking system for appraisals and be more competitive to the market rate regarding salaries.
