    Pros

It's a great company to have on your resume. You are exposed to a range of personalities and are really prepared to deal with cut throat atmospheres.

    Cons

Unfortunately, incomplete employees were easily elevated to VP and even SVP status just because they sucked up to the right people. I literally was spoon feeding my VP information on how to do her job and it was absolutely frustrating. Whenever I thought I would be next in line for more responsibility or a better title, I was passed on by the cheekier and talkative alternative that had no idea what they were doing.

    Advice to Management

There really needs to be outside checks and balances to promotions and salary increases. Some department heads reward the employees that hangout with them outside business hours and those to suck up the most as oppose to the individuals who come in everyday working hard.

I worked at Barclays full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are very talented people that work there and getting to work with and learn from them is an honor.

    Cons

The senior management has been there for too long and they work on the premise of taking care of their friends. They lack a human element and forget that this is still a human capital business despite the machines taking over some businesses.

    Advice to Management

Learn to treat people with sympathy and empathy, and pay people fairly.

    Pros

Not to many to note. I really like getting to work at a desk and in an office. I like to have time to eat.

    Cons

I don't like getting paid less than I want to get paid. I think it would be better if I was paid more so that I could buy more stuff

I have been working at Barclays full-time

    Pros

Still has a potentially strong investment bank franchise. Recent leadership changes means the focus has shifted back to the IB

    Cons

Lack of stability. The constant shifting of priorities coupled with the never ending cycle of cuts in resources makes for a very challenging environment

    Advice to Management

Decide upon a strategy and stick with it at least for 6 months

I worked at Barclays full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Some very good people
    - Compensation still better than other industries
    - Has a great research department
    - Jes Staley good leader

    Cons

    - Compensation below that of competitors
    - No consistency of message from management. Has been a revolving door and seem to change focus every six months.
    - Unclear if the investment bank's trading arm will still be there in the future.

    Advice to Management

Keep the message clear and consistent. There have been massive RIFs every winter the last several years which kills morale. Pick a size and stick to it.

    Cons

Management is totally clueless. Zero insight into comp before it comes. Very bad environment on the trading floor and the company can not compete with US banks.
