    Pros

Friendly supervisors. Great experience for a summer internship. Big name company on resume. Great balance between team research and intern projects.

    Cons

Pay is slightly less than Wall Street standards. Barclay's Wealth was sold, so no full-time positions were given to interns.

    Advice to Management

Look out for interns who will be looking to start careers. Go to intern presentations. Give more feedback. Lunch and learn sessions were very useful, so continue those.

I worked at Barclays (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance, good culture and values, Good New York location, access to cafeteria and work gym

    Cons

Limited advancement beyond VP and Director in Finance

    Advice to Management

Create new title structure to recognize and differentiate strong performing senior VPs from junior VPs if limited Director spots are available otherwise firm will lose needed talent.

I have been working at Barclays (More than a year)

    Pros

I joined right after graduation. There are some tech savvy teams where you can learn a lot and have a big impact, but there are also teams where nobody knows what is going on. I was lucky to land in the good ones - make your research before joining.

    Cons

Like most big companies, it is hard to have a big impact.

    Advice to Management

The hiring freeze isn't a best idea because best talent is leaving and the rest is staying.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Competitive salaries (sort of - you can always find better salaries in technology elsewhere). Great benefits, including medical, dental, matching 401K. Very talented technology workers. These are some of the smartest techies you will ever work with. Very laid back open office, collaborative culture.

    Cons

Barclays, as one of the big banks who have been fined continuously by regulators, have had to make some cuts. Tech workers are being re-located to Delaware, the UK and India. Sad, but when the company loses its technology visionaries to other companies, and things get financially challenging for the board, cuts easily find its tech areas. Wrong focus, in my opinion. Also, so much politics with an old UK financial institution.

    Advice to Management

Don't ever forget that technology is the future. If you don't stay on the cutting edge, you have none. It doesn't matter if you are being fined millions.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Laid back environment, smart people, relatively progressive for a bank when it comes to technology.

    Cons

All of the pros varies greatly from group to group, and from position to position.
It's a giant bank, and as such you have a lot of bureaucracy, and an environment where patches of mediocrity thrive. Also the pay is rather sad relatively speaking. No bonuses at all. Which tends to correlate with apathy and mediocrity.
IT is housed in the saddest excuse for an office building at 1301 Ave of the americas. It's a sad building. With a sad staff. It's really very very sad. The building that is. The employees are not sad. But the building is.

    Advice to Management

    no point.

I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1) Good exposure to finance and use variety of technologies to work on.

    Cons

Grad program does not give you flexibility to choose your area of work. e.g. a technical stream employee end up doing business analyst job for 6 months and vice versa.

    Advice to Management

Already changed the grad structure starting 2016 so nothing else to suggest.
