I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Ample opportunity to work on many diverse, fun projects with big name companies.
-Engaging and personable immediate leadership. (Leads/Supervisors)
    -Willing to teach
-Amicable atmosphere on floor with artists
-Studio located in a great location (Kelowna)

    Cons

-Mismanaged production schedules put considerable pressure and stresses on artists.
-Tight production schedules doesn't leave room for artists to practice, learn and grow.
-Miscommunications on past projects between production and artists/leads/supervisors lead to negativity. However, Bardel has learned from those missteps and seems to be doing better.

    Advice to Management

    -Be Transparent
    -Fight for the artists
-Work with us from the trenches, your example speaks volumes.
-Be realistically optimistic. You don't have to be smiling all the time, but be realistic about the situation while optimistically seeking solutions.

I worked at Bardel Entertainment full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good leads and sups (depending on project)
    Studio atmosphere is pleasant.
    Decent number of shows
Vancouver studio is in a nice location

    Cons

    unrealistic deadlines and quality expectations
    no work/life balance
    unpaid overtime is normal.
low morale overall. people seem tired or disinterested.
HR is slow and very disorganized. (once didn't receive a paycheque at least 3 times due to a clerical error.)
bought by rainbow in 2016 (which imo is the reason the company is failing)

    Advice to Management

treat your artists like human beings, they deserve respect and better compensation for the hard work they put in every day.

    Pros

Filled with amazing and talented artists to learn from
Not a bad place start your animation career

    Cons

-depending on the show, the production can be pretty unorganized.
-can overpromise clients and the artist have to do OT to suffer and meet unrealistic deadlines

    Advice to Management

    - take care of your artist or they will constantly try to leave your studio.
    - Don't treat them like they're expendable

Fun series to work in, nice stuff to put into your demoreel

Lack of motivation for their employees, it feels like a factory

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Consistent Work
    -Cool Projects
    -A rather well known Studio
    -Benefits cover half of MSP.

    Cons

    -A somewhat factory feeling
-Company culture has changed since the Rainbow acquisition
-If an issue arises, it takes forever to get fixed, if it gets fixed at all
    -Underbid on projects a lot
-Lots of unpaid overtime required (working until midnight is pretty common) to keep up with deadlines, because they don't budget enough time for shows.
-Working in the Kelowna Studio, it feels secondary to the Vancouver ones sites.
-Employees seem to know nothing unless you're higher up. Often told that we're able to switch projects to some that are more interesting, but by the time you find out you're able to switch, the projects full.
-Often ignores employee suggestion and issues.
-Somewhat underpays compared to other studios.
-CEO seems out of touch with what is actually happening in the studio.
-Often have 1 to 2 hour meetings that waste time, only so an executive can show their face, and give an HR approved speech about how great the studio is, only to give no real information and answer no questions.

    Advice to Management

Listen to issues that are brought up by employees. Bid for more time on projects. It doesn't need to be everything, but let your artists at least know when a show starts looking for animators let them know. Cut out the "roundtables" and just send out the information in an email.

I worked at Bardel Entertainment full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good TV experience.
The shows were fun to work on.
    Many talented animators.

    Cons

    High quota.
Seem to have some growing pains still.
The budget for the shows are too low. It seems Bardel way underbid. For the quality the directors want it is not achievable.

    Advice to Management

Bardel underbid for these contracts. You can't guilt trip your employees to work free overtime because of you underbid.

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Cool current projects and future ones, a good place to learn and improve on one's skills regardless of experience
    - Lots of good people and awesome artists to work with
    - They have a benefits package now
    - Good work/ life balance on current project
    - Location is near one of more historic parts of Vancouver and lots of nice places to eat are close by and very accessible be Transit

    Cons

    - Benefits are nice but could still be more comprehensive, also communication and how it was rolled out was lacking
    - Not all shows have the same hours, some are good but others required lots of OT
    - Pay is on the lower end of local studios
    - Studio at Beatty is lacking in how many bathrooms( 5 for about a 100 people ) and a persistent rodent problem

    Advice to Management

The studio has grown a lot over the last few years and there have been some visible improvements with that growth and more opportunities as well.
However pay needs addressing and while the benefits package is a good step, the roll out of it was confusing and I was left with lots of questions and communication left something to be desired.

    Pros

    Fun projects/ great people/good location.

    Cons

Poor budget on show. Not enough animators. Quality standards are high for such extensive workloads causing necessary overtime quite frequently.

    Advice to Management

Stronger drive to adapt to production challenges. Hire more people so we can have a better work/life balance.
