I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time

    Pros

Bardel has great shows - there's no other way to put it. They work with some of the best brands in the industry, and offer artists creatively challenging opportunities to grow in their careers and learn from experienced industry professionals.

Alongside the great shows, Bardel has great people! The company culture is friendly, engaging, and fun. People make jokes in the hallways, walk for coffee together, carve pumpkins together, trouble shoot technical problems together, eat cereal together. It is a very collaborative environment where artists are encouraged to share their opinions and bring forward solutions. The Senior Management team is also a good group of people who genuinely care about the studio.

If you want to be challenged in your career and work on great shows with great people, Bardel is the place for you.

    Cons

Every company has room to improve. Bardel could implement a few structural improvements that would benefit the studio as a whole, but as far as animation studios go, it's a good place to work!

    Pros

Fast but manageable pace, fun crew, good coworkers, good shows to work on

    Cons

Pay isn't that great - probably due to the double-whammy of working in BC and working in TV.

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Ample opportunity to work on many diverse, fun projects with big name companies.
-Engaging and personable immediate leadership. (Leads/Supervisors)
    -Willing to teach
-Amicable atmosphere on floor with artists
-Studio located in a great location (Kelowna)

    Cons

-Mismanaged production schedules put considerable pressure and stresses on artists.
-Tight production schedules doesn't leave room for artists to practice, learn and grow.
-Miscommunications on past projects between production and artists/leads/supervisors lead to negativity. However, Bardel has learned from those missteps and seems to be doing better.

    Advice to Management

    -Be Transparent
    -Fight for the artists
-Work with us from the trenches, your example speaks volumes.
-Be realistically optimistic. You don't have to be smiling all the time, but be realistic about the situation while optimistically seeking solutions.

    Pros

Good colleagues you can learn a lot if you are junior or mid, some good projects to work on, is a good place for a first experience

    Cons

Expect a lot of OT especially if you are junior, bad communication between the management and the employees, no OT paid, no OT dinner, lack of new projects

    Advice to Management

hired more qualified people to avoid OT.

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Different projects but long hours with OT and high quota depending on show but usually paid. Again depends on the show. Pay not bad compared to other studios.

    Cons

No consistenty across the shows on how the quotas are decided. Some shows better than others.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your crew when we tell you they are maxed out. Find ways to balance the workload other than OT.

    Opportunity to grow and learn.
    Good quality projects.

    Cons

Recently crazy quotas in the new shows.
Unbalanced salaries. An intermediate animator can get almost the same as a lead, sometimes more.

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time

    Pros

    - Try to retain employees from project to project
    - Great starting job, they give you a lot of opportunities to learn and grow
    - Fairly easy to move up if you are willing to stay there over time. If you only stay for a year and leave, this won't really happen, but if you stay for about 5 years and are talented it's pretty easy to move up in most departments
    - Cool projects, some are long term
    - Good benefits for healthcare
    - Fairly good community vibe

    Cons

    - They often do not let you know what is happening after your contracts unless you specifically harass them to find out. If they like you, they will definitely try to keep you, but they don't always let you know what their plans are until right before they want you to start a new show. Has lead to good people leaving simply because they didn't know that the company wanted to keep them
    - OT can be heavy depending on the project. However, is usually paid, production is pretty good about trying to get teams paid OT if they are behind for reasons beyond their control.

    Advice to Management

Please let people know well in advance what show you are planning to keep them on. Otherwise, they will leave or feel burned when they are told they're being kept only to find out they are out of a job.

Overall show pipeline could use work, would be great if those who are higher up would do more post-mortems on shows so they can hear what the problems were and prevent them from happening again. A lot of people are aware of the problems and how they could be solved but higher ups don't make an effort to hear these problems or implement solutions which leads to the same issues on every single project.
