I worked at Bardel Entertainment full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

If you want to quietly be another gear cog in a machine, you can disappear in here and be left alone.

    Cons

Productions are constantly understaffing in all departments causing more workload for same pay. Senior, effective artists are not given rewards or incentives. The overly corporate feeling in the air does not encourage loyalty to the company.

    Advice to Management

Let creatives have more say in running the studio, instead of distant, cold, money-grubbing producers.

I worked at Bardel Entertainment full-time

    Pros

Passionate coworkers, team activities, weekly lunchtime improv, life drawing, etc.

    Cons

Facility was lacking... large company with minimal bathrooms and vermin problems. Depending on production management of projects, you may be pressured to work free extra hours to make outrageous deadlines.

    Advice to Management

Great team atmosphere at Bardel, however the facility needs some upgrades to accommodate a huge number of employees. Also, keep production in check on how to manage the schedule to allow for better work life balance. No one should be working free overtime.

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Nice location Fun projects, highly varied

      Cons

Does not seem to learn from their previous mistakes. In regards to planning and scheduling Unpaid overtime is expected The pipeline is broken Quality is usually significantly dropped to due to teams being mostly juniors

      Advice to Management

To make this no longer a stepping stone studio artists need a reason to stay. Top animators leave because the quality drops Junior - Mid level animators leave once they have no one around that inspires them

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

-Some fun and interesting shows -Cool people to work with -Easy entry for recent graduates

      Cons

-High quotas due to under-staffing from under-bidding shows/clients having unrealistic expectations -Little to no OT pay -Almost everyone is either already or is quickly becoming fed up/tired of all the work a little to no compensation (we occasionally get OT meals but we have to stay until 7:30/8PM to recieve them) -Little to no communication from HR when transitioning off shows

I worked at Bardel Entertainment full-time for more than 4 years

        Pros

Good leads and sups (depending on project) Studio atmosphere is pleasant. Decent number of shows Vancouver studio is in a nice location

        Cons

unrealistic deadlines and quality expectations no work/life balance unpaid overtime is normal. low morale overall. people seem tired or disinterested. HR is slow and very disorganized. (once didn't receive a paycheque at least 3 times due to a clerical error.) bought by rainbow in 2016 (which imo is the reason the company is failing)

        Advice to Management

treat your artists like human beings, they deserve respect and better compensation for the hard work they put in every day.

        Pros

Filled with amazing and talented artists to learn from Not a bad place start your animation career

        Cons

-depending on the show, the production can be pretty unorganized. -can overpromise clients and the artist have to do OT to suffer and meet unrealistic deadlines

        Advice to Management

        - take care of your artist or they will constantly try to leave your studio. - Don't treat them like they're expendable

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time for more than a year

        Pros

        - Great studio for straight out of school. - Can work on high profile shows. - Good location. - Good studio culture.

        Cons

        - Terrible CEO. - Recently purchased by Italian company (Rainbow) so future of company is uncertain. - High turnover rate for HR department resulting in lots of clerical mistakes.

        Advice to Management

Replace Delna with a competent, sincere, intelligent leader who actually knows what they're talking about. Preferably someone who doesn't pass the blame when anything goes wrong, and takes credit when anything goes right. Delna has an awful reputation in the industry both with employees and clients. Replacing her would make Bardel much more appealing to anyone considering working there.

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

Different projects but long hours with OT and high quota depending on show but usually paid. Again depends on the show. Pay not bad compared to other studios.

        Cons

No consistenty across the shows on how the quotas are decided. Some shows better than others.

        Advice to Management

Listen to your crew when we tell you they are maxed out. Find ways to balance the workload other than OT.

I have been working at Bardel Entertainment full-time for more than 4 years

        Pros

Lots of shows to work on. Most of the time, they will seek to keep you and find you another show if the one you were working on has ended. Decent pay.

        Cons

Pipeline and quotas are insane for the level of quality and output expected. Harassment cases go ignored or a blind eye is turned to it.

        Advice to Management

Work on your pipelines and quota expectancy or you’ll soon find yourself becoming the next Nerd Corps. And alienating yourself from experienced and talented artists. You pride yourself in the quality of your shows- try to keep it that way. Do not claim to take harassment seriously when you don’t actually reprimand those people for their poor actions after multiple warnings...
